A Day at the Beach

{Rashguard: Vitamin A Stella Stripe c/o The Orchid Boutique. Bikini bottom: Vitamin A Stella Stripe c/o The Orchid Boutique. Photographed by me.} Finally! Basel is done. The Boat Show is pulling its final pieces of flotsam out of the water. And we’ve all gargled Tums after a weekend of SBWFF. For one glorious week we’re show, festival and fair free. (Miami International Film Festival doesn’t start until March 7, and we have until at least the 20th of March before Winter Music Conference and it’s fur-covered ravers invade our turf). Life, as we know it, can resume to normal (or an normal as things get around here). Alton Road traffic will just be run-of-the-mill Alton Road traffic. And the beach may actually have a plot or two for the locals. For nearly one week, we get Miami back. It’s ours. Sweet, glorious ours. Yeah. And it couldn’t come at a better time. It’s that time of…Read More

August Must-Haves

It’s August? Seriously? How did that happen? Where is this summer going? Better make the best of what’s left of summer with these staples for the month. Because there are still many beach days ahead, I’m obsessing over my Maaji bikini I snagged at the Escape Beauty Lounge during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. You can also score the brand at The Orchid Boutique. A trip to the beach isn’t complete without sunscreen. (The idea of Botox scares me.) I keep mine stashed in this Hayden Reis bag for the beach. These sunnies are by far the coolest shades I’ve come across all summer with their metal cat eye frames from Italia Independent. Beach bound in my Miayos summer shoes. They are made locally, named after Miami streets and add a perfect pop to summer trips to the sand and shore. Check out my Biscayne Blvds. Exfoliating the parts of summer that…Read More

Summer Swim Trends

View more videos at: http://nbcmiami.com.     In case you missed it yesterday, here’s my piece on swim trends for NBC 6 in the Mix.

Sittin’ on Top of the World

{Dress: c/o Ramona LaRue. Shoes: c/o Mia Shoes. Arm Party: Lola James Jewelry. Necklace: c/o Birks Muse Collection} A couple of week ago I filmed a swimsuit segment for NBC 6. It just happens to air today at 11:30 a.m. I’ll be sure to post it this week, in case you are stuck at your 9-to-5. We filmed at at Sense Beach House‘s most adorable rooftop which overlooks the heart of South Beach, making it the perfect setting to talk about swim trends for the summer. I decided on a bold pop of a dress from Ramona LaRue for myself and decked my models out in some of my favorite styles for plopping into the pool. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how it all went down. Telling it like it is. Big thanks to Matt for being super awesome and filming all our antics. That’s a wrap. Lounging poolside with my fem…Read More

Taking the Plunge

{On me: Bikini: L Space by Monica Wise at The Orchid Boutique. On kid: Tankini: Target.} Fact: My kid totally swims better than I do. And she always has. I’ll just chalk this up to the fact that I grew up in a landlocked state and she grew up on the only peninsula in the U.S. It’s not for lack of trying though. My mom dragged me off to swimming lessons and when it came time to fetch the rings at the bottom of the Olympic-size swimming pool, I bribed the kid next to me to pick up my three while he was down there anyway. But come summer, despite my landlocked tendencies, I still like to take the plunge. Vivitar was kind enough to gift me this awesome DVR 850 W rechargeable underwater camera that captures you holding your breathe underwater (or me holding my nose) up to 5…Read More

Going Ginger

{Region Sweater: c/o Left on Houston. Jeans: Zara. Shoes: Jill Stuart. Lolindo Necklace: c/o The Orchid Boutique.} Yesterday was a much deserved me day. Let me tell you, it’s been a week. I started off getting a mani and pedi at a new spot, 111 Nails, then it was over to Jungle Island to host the Garnier Olia Tour for bloggers. I’ve been debating going red for some time now and yesterday, I decided to just do it, put a little red in my hair. With a Miami Cocktail Company margarita in hand, a perfect view of the water and a cloudless sky, I sat down with the team from Garnier and plotted out which shade would be right for my new look. Turns out, it’s as easy as mixing 5.0 with 5.5. And it only took 30 minutes, of which I spent hanging out with the blogger crew on the…Read More

Tuning In

{(On Me) Sweater: c/o Left on Houston. Jeans: Mossimo. Hat: The Orchid Boutique. Leather Fringe Necklace: c/o InPink. Ring: Amorium. Shoes: Forever 21. (On Kiddo) Dress and Necklace: Little Mass c/o Hugs and Hissyfits. Shoes: Bongo.} One of my favorite new bands of the moment is Tame Impala. Kiddo got me into listening to them. Sure she’s 5, but her taste in music is impeccable. She loves Hot Chip and Capital Cities. And she’s recently gotten into Haim. So, the other day when Tame Impala’s “Elephant” came on, she insisted it sounded like Halloween music (the part where the organ comes in) and that this would be the part when the ghosts came out. Oddly enough, I totally get that. The next time we got in the car, she asked me to play the Halloween song again, which left me searching Spotify for Tame Impala. When I found them, I came across other songs like…Read More

Excess Baggage

{Swimsuit: c/o Maio Swim by Monica Wise, available at theorchidboutique.com. Shirt: Base. Sunnies: c/o Lacoste. Bag: c/o Hayden Reis. Shoes: Jimmy Choo. Bangle: Vintage.} The worst job I’ve ever had in my entire life happened the summer of my senior year of high school. I got hired by a resort in Destin, Florida to drive around a golf cart, pick up tourists and take them to the beach. When they needed my services, they’d beep me the number of the house they were staying in, I’d pull up to the front door, load them in and drive them to the end of the street. It sounded ideal, a summer in the sun. But it grew old, fast. Eight hours a day, I’d pull up to an Easter egg-colored house on the resort’s property, wait for an army of sunburnt tourists in zinc oxide-covered noses to toddle out of their house, weighted down with one or two…Read More
