Four-Letter Words

{Wearing: Black Flowy Dress: shopblush.com. Wedges: c/o ShoeDazzle. Photographed by me.} Love—it’s a fairly interesting four-letter word. OK, maybe it’s not the one I constantly yell as I’m battling Miami’s sea of endless bad drivers, but it’s still a good one. In fact, last Saturday it turned into the theme of the day. My dear friend Annie Vazquez, The Fashion Poet, invited me to a lovely brunch with ShoeDazzle. It happened to be at Love is Blind. I just happen to LOVE that place. The two times I had been there before I danced the night away with a smile perma-glued to my face. And this particular day I got to celebrate another thing I love: shoes. Because real talk: it’s easier to love shoes than it is to love some people. After social hour and shoe talk with the girls (if you aren’t already a member of ShoeDazzle, consider…Read More

Glam.com on Where to Spring Break in Miami

Here’s are a few stills from at my latest YouTube video, where Glam.com, The Fashion Poet and I show you the best places to stay for spring break in Miami Beach. It was a great chance to show off what Miami Beach, my home, is all about. Plus, I got to snoop around some of my favorite hotels and cool little nooks on the beach. To check out the whole video, be sure to click here. To get what I’m wearing, find my Hot Pink Metallic Bodycon Crop Top c/o Blush here and my Elan White Semi-Sheer Pants c/o Blush here.

Off to Market

{Wearing: Croptop: Touch Boutique. Skirt: c/o French Connection (similar here). Necklace: c/o Delicate Raymond vintage monogrammed necklace. Bag: Marc Jacobs. Shoes: Steve Madden. Flash Tattoo: Blush. Photographed by KarGar.} Attention fashionistas, there’s a new spot to shop in South Florida. From Studio LX and Blush boutiques comes Market, a spot where staples equal both comfort and style. Is that possible? Yup, it is. Tees, harem pants, white cotton dresses, tattered jeans, boho jewels and more abound at the store at 5818 Sunset Drive. The best part: Almost everything is under $100. I got a chance to shop the store along with some of my favorite bloggers prior to the grand opening. And I’ll say this much: Good stuff. There’s even a seamstress service offered so you can get the perfect fit. As a Miami blogger, I’ve made it no secret the importance of shopping local. And this is a perfect chance…Read More

Dive In: Escape Miami Style Lounge

{On me: Bikini: American Apparel top and bottom. Pearls: Vintage. On kiddo: Bathing suit: American Apparel. Bracelets: Vintage. Turban: Vintage. Photographed by Alexander Tamargo of @altaimages.} Fact: I spent one whole day driving from one end of Miami to the other to find props to recreate two vintage pics I found on Pinterest for this year’s Escape Miami Style Lounge exhibit. Why? I might be a tad crazy, partially obsessed and dedicated as hell. Once I get a picture in my head, I just have to see it through to the end. I chalk it up to my Aries-ness. This year, knowing I was shooting at The National Hotel for the project, I let myself get inspired by the Art Deco architecture, my love of bygone days and upcoming Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. I’ll always be a retro girl at heart, and having a stylist who can whip up the best…Read More

An Evening With Express

{Top: Cropped Lace Tee c/o Express. Skirt: High Waist Cotton Full Skirt c/o Express. Necklace: c/o Express. Bracelets: Rhinestone Embellished Hinge Bracelet in silver and hermatite c/o Express. Clutch: Metallic Angled Cut-Out Clutch c/o Express. Shoes: Gucci. The event was stellar, with a DIY tee booth, braid bar, manis, free drinks, mini grilled cheeses (which I may or may not—ok may—have eaten 38 of), models, Heat players and bloggers from near and far. Let’s just put it this way: Express went all out and it showed. I wore Express (of course) to the event, which included my full skirt (with pockets—a major selling point) that I’m absolutely obsessed with and my serious statement necklace. Upon arriving, I noticed my crop top, full skirt…Read More

My Date With Blush

{ Fur vest: c/o Shopblush.com. Crop top: C/o Shopblush.com. Blank NYC jeans: c/o Shopblush.com. Belt: c/o Shopblush.com.} Last week, I got the awesome opportunity to host an in-store party at Blush in Miami Beach. Lord knows I shop there every time I get a juice from JugoFresh, so I was really excited about the whole thing. My co-hosts for the evening: Annie of The Fashion Poet and Dani or Nany’s Klozet (aka some of my favorite fashion blogger sistas). The night started off by getting all dolled up in Blush. I went with a basic black outfit with a crop top and jeans. The jeans from Blank NYC fit like none other, so I was happy to find them. To give the outfit a little pizzaz, I opted for a silver belt. And then, I found it. The fur vest. Adding it to my look (complete with my midriff showing)…Read More

Blushin’ and Bloggin’ For a Good Cause

{Crop Top: Shopblush.com. Harem Pants: Forever 21. Shoes: BCBG. Necklaces: Lola James. Bag: Vintage. Photographed by Maria Tettamanti} Save the date, kids. I’m hosting the Blushin’ and Bloggin’ For a Good Cause event at Blush South Beach on November 14 with my blogger sistas Annie Vazquez and Daniela Ramirez. It’s a perfect excuse for a girl’s night out with plenty of shopping and 10 percent of proceeds from the night going toward Juntos. Since I can’t stop into Blush without finding at least three things that simple MUST GO HOME WITH ME (like this crop top), I promise it will be a great night. Besides, it’s time for you to start putting your Basel wardrobe together. Of which I’ll be doing sans the Alexis sale this year, as she isn’t having one. Yes, sad, but true. It’s time to look elsewhere for our artful looks for that fateful week…Read More

I Survived Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim

{Me and Annie of The Fashion Poet at Agua Bendita. Photo by Getty Images} They say hindsight is 50/50. And after four days of living in the tents at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim (the official last night is tonight), I’d like to share my secrets for forging through what is quickly becoming a big Lyrca blur. {Crop top: American Apparel. High/Low skirt: Blush Boutique. Wedges: Max Azria. Neon necklace: Lola James Jewelry. Beaded necklace: Express. Ring: Vintage. Ludlow Bag: Botkier. Photographed by Maria Tettamanti} Beauty lounges exist for a reason. Use them. The idea to host a slew of parties outside in Miami— a sweaty situation. The idea to have beauty lounges so you can touch up after dripping throughout the day—simply brilliant. Make sure to book your appointments to get your hair done, your nails refreshed and your makeup touched-up as far in advance as possible. It will be your saving grace….Read More

I Steal Anne Hathaway’s Oscar Hair and Makeup

As unofficial president of the girls-with-short-hair club, I was elated to see major celebs sporting pixie cuts at the Oscars this year: Halle Berry, Charlize Theron, and Anne Hathaway. And when Van Michael Miami Salon asked me to be the short hair model for their Deco Drive Oscar makeover story, I, of course, said yes. A celeb-style makeover:  that’s a no-brainer. With Leslie Munsell giving makeup transformations and Jessica Richardson killing it in the celeb hair department, it went a little something like this: Annie Vazquez of The Fashion Poet getting her reverse chignon updo and makeup on a la Jennifer Lawrence. In lieu of Anne’s awful high beam hinting gown, I’m wearing my vintage beaded dress and Pour la Victoire shoes. Me pretending to be Anne Hathaway, Jalene as Reese Witherspoon in old Hollywood waves, Crystal as Jennifer Hudson in sleek and straight and Annie as Jennifer Lawrence all done up. I’m rocking…Read More
