The Highlights of NYFW

It came and went so quickly, but it was memorable, nonetheless. Here’s a look at my Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week adventure. Backstage at Jason Wu Being backstage at Jason Wu was a full circle event for me. It was his collab with Target and “Wugate” that got me heavily invested in blogging to begin with. From Low ponies, natural makeup and one-on-one time with Deborah Lippmann, the experience was a great kick-off to day two. The Volume at Zimmermann Layers, ruffles, ruffles and layers, the spring 2015 collection from Zimmermann is the stuff girly girls dreams are made of. Even the swimwear had volume. Backstage and Front of House at Public School Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, is typical at Public School. Even the hair clips at the CFDA winners show are extraordinary. Seeing a sunglasses-less Anna Wintour at the show, just added to the experience. And…Read More

Altuzarra for Target

The Altuzarra for Target collection launched this a.m. and for the first time in a long time I wasn’t in line at the door. The reason why had nothing to do with the collection not being up to snuff—in fact, it’s perfect. I was just lucky enough to attend the launch party during NYFW, where I got the opportunity to also shop the collection. The party itself was pretty amazing, with lights and mirrors creating a maze of what seemed like never-ending stars. But what’s the collection like? Well, it’s pretty great, actually. Out of the collection, my favorite pieces are the PJ sets, the floral maxi dress and the trench coats (all pictured below). The dresses have a ’70s Halston, Studio 54 feel and are made of a shiny material. It’s the slits and plunging necklines that give them a va-va-va voom quality. And speaking of quality, priced around $40,…Read More

NYFW Day 4: What I Wore

{Wearing: Bodysuit: Forever21. Distressed Denim: Target. Vest:  c/o Marshalls. Booties: Bib + Tuck. Bag: Chanel. Necklace: Vintage. Hat: Vintage. Bracelet: Forever21. Photographed by Angeles Almuna.} How was Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week? It’s the question I’ve been asked over and over again since I got home, and one I’m more than happy to answer. It was amazing, and I’m beyond thrilled I went. Over the moon. After more than a decade of being invited to the shows (from those long ago and far away days of the dark ages of print magazines), I finally stopped making excuses (too afraid to fly, can’t be away from home, to stressful to fall out of my daily grind), and did it. I went. And it was worth every second. As a little girl, my mother, a hair stylist (who took me to work with her, where I watched women transform from everyday people…Read More

NYFW Day 3: What I Wore

{Wearing: Touch Dolls dress. Booties: Saint Laurent. Bag: Gap. Bracelets: Touch Dolls and Alexis Bittar. Braids: c/o Tresemme. Photographed by Matt Degreff.} Fashion may come and go but one thing for New Yorkers will always be a constant: Black. Orange, purple, green, cobalt, red, pink, leopard—they can all be the new,  but at the end of the day they will never be black. It’s also my favorite shade to wear and makes up a good 90 percent of my closet, so I feel like I can just blend right in when I’m in the Big Apple. I tossed on this dress and hit the third day of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. After winding up at Lincoln Center, I ran into fellow Miami bloggers Kristin Clark and Daniela Ramirez, who were also decked out in the same shade. To see three Miami fashion bloggers in a complete lack of color was, well,…Read More

NYFW Day 2: What I Wore and Why

{Wearing: Top: Shopblush.com. Shorts: Blank NYC at Shopblush.com. Shoes: Valentino. Bag: Chanel. Hat: Vintage. Sunnies: c/o Christian Roth. Necklace: c/o Isa Boutique. Bracelets: Vintage. Photographed by Angeles Almuna.} I was having a serious chat with Steffy Degreff yesterday about September in New York. As a Miamian, I get all sorts of magazines in September chocked full of fall fashion. Tights! Sweaters! Leather! Jackets! For a girl who lives in 90-something degree heat the majority of the year, a trip to NYFW in September is a chance to finally wear all those things you question why you buy in the first place. So, as I packed my bag for New York Fashion Week, I threw in all the things I won’t be able to wear again until that one random week in December. Hell, I packed three pairs of booties and five (yes, FIVE) jackets. And then I got here. I…Read More

Spring 2015 Beauty Trends at NYFW

I have so many fashion week stories to tell, but let me get to the guts and glory before I start weighing in on my experience. (I’m saving that gem for last.) First things first, let’s talk hair and makeup trends for spring 2015. I started off my backstage trend-tracking adventure at Costello Tagliapietra at Milk Studios. Makeup came under the direction of Tina Turnbow for Beauty.com using Jane Iredale and Arcona for skincare. Here, it was all about the eyes. Strike that, make that the eyelashes. (Did you hear that? My inner mascara/turned-lash-extension junkie just yipped.) Of course, beautiful, flawless skin will always be the perfect canvas, so prep accordingly and invest in a good foundation. As the artist explained, when eyes are the focus, bags and dark circles will take away from the big picture every single time. Hi, welcome to why women invest entire incomes in eye…Read More

Sometimes at NYFW …

{Wearing: Dress: c/o Marshalls. Booties: Valentino. Belt: Alexis. Statement Necklace: c/o TJ Maxx. Bag: c/o TJ Maxx. Hat: c/o H&M.} I called my mom yesterday and said, “I’m having so much fun, I’m never coming home.” Then, she reminded me eventually New York Fashion Week ends and you do have to come home. So, I’m making the most of it while I’m here. Yesterday, between shows, I got the chance to shoot with TJ Maxx and Marshalls in the Meatpacking District for #WhatIWoreNYFW. I put together an on-trend look with plaid and leather. I normally don’t do plaid, it’s too mountain man for me, but it’s huge this fall. So, I decided to step outside of my fashion comfort zone, but added overtly girly touches here and there for a look I like to call Lumberjack Meets Jackie O. And those shoes, well,  I spent a total of 13 hours in…Read More
