My PCH Seekender Adventure: The Final Destination

We awoke the next morning, snug in the clean, white sheets of our Hampton by Hilton Arroyo Grande bed. Looming above us was the fact that today was our last day. Our final leg of the PCH. Our farewell to California. The end of our vacation. Rather than sulk, we adopted a carpe diem spirit. If this was the last, then we revel in it, live it to the fullest. After breakfast, though. After stuffing ourselves with homemade waffles, hot cocoa and coffee at the hotel’s breakfast bar, we then stuffed our belongings into the saddlebags, making sure the renegade backpack was extra secure. After yesterday, I wasn’t taking any chances. A beautiful day lie ahead. Once the sun rose high in the sky, the warmth would return. He was adamant about showing me Santa Barbara. I was adamant about eating Mexican food. Real Mexican food. He climbed onto the Indian…Read More

High Five

{Wearing: Dress: Market. Mariana Over the Knee Boots: Cole Haan at Brickell City Centre. Necklace: Blush.} {My quasi-dramatic pictures for a post that comes straight from my heart.} And there you have it: Five years of coming to this page and telling it like it is. Back on November 11, 2011, I got a wild hair to start a blog, so I did. Oh, the places it’s taken me. I broke a story (Wu-gate), which today I look back on and laugh at, and for whatever reason—God, the universe—decided this was what I was meant to do. I have to say, though, at times it has been hard (having multiple jobs and a blog and a kid), tiring (do I even have anything to say), heart-breaking (the haters come out in droves), frustrating (suck it, hackers), but no matter what, it’s been this little space, this haven, where I can…Read More

Extreme Beauty: No More Waiting in Line

{Wearing: Dress: Blush. Shoes: Steve Madden. Necklace. Hair & Makeup: Gina Dearing. Skincare: Botoxx Labb Aesthetic Beauty Bar. Photographed by Milly Jane Harris.} Expressions are nice. Wrinkles, not so much. Finding a balance between the two is something you gotta do when you start to look up at the fourth floor (I’m talking 40s, people. It’s coming sooner than later, and I’m not going down without a fight). I’ve found my balance at Botox Labb Aesthetic Beauty Bar with Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner Danielle Smith. After an awesome consultation the month before, here’s how our first appointment went down: I walk in. Danielle and Jen, the patient coordinator—are walking around with rainbow polka dot grids on their chins. Me: “Um, so whatcha got goin’ on there?” Jen: I’m trying out Kybella. Danielle: Me, too. Me: Oh, I’ve heard of that. Danielle: It melts your fat. Me: And have you ever done it…Read More

The 2016 Halloween Reveal

And there you have it: Pippi Longstocking and her monkey, Mr. Nilsson. Being the Halloween-loving fam that we are, we settled on this idea somewhere around the beginning of September. A few years back I made Milly watch the movie as part of her ’80s childhood education. I remember it being one of my all-time faves as a kid. Pippi was so awesome. And her hair! Thirty-something years later, modern kids still find it just as cool. This year, Milly turned to me as we were looting Miami Beach of its candy stash and said: “No one ever has the same costume as me.” And that, my dear, is the point. When your mom makes you into her childhood nostalgia you get the only Pippi on the block. Unlike last year, though, a lot of kids did know who she was. I mean, how could you not? Pippi is a…Read More

The Brunette is Back

{Wearing: Sage Green Leather Top and Matching Sage Green Leather Skirt: Nisse c/o My Home Fashion Boutique. Hair Color: Michele Fury of Miami Color & Style. Haircut: Guillaume Massol of Miami Color & Style. Makeup: Glamsquad. Photographed by Jorge Camaraza.} When I was in high school, one day I peered into the mirror and noticed, gasp, a grey hair. Thanks, whichever family member, for passing that little gene defect along. Basically, from that day forward, I would throw the darkest brown dye into my hair—just a shade above black—to hide from the sad, sad reality that I would be dealing with grey hair since before I even had a driver’s license. Basically, that’s how I’ve been hiding the problem ever since. If you asked me my real hair color, I’d have to reference what’s going on on Milly’s head, because it’s been so long now, I clearly cannot remember. Until now. Earlier this month,…Read More

Extreme Beauty: Laser Facial

And what do we have here? I know it looks like I’m transforming into Frankenstein’s bride, but what’s really going on is the introduction of a new section to Electric Blogarella. This is the beginning of Extreme Beauty, where monthly, I’ll test beauty extremes and let you know what they do, how they work and, most importantly, what they feel like. So, what, exactly, is happening in the pic above? Vivid Face’s Signature Treatment: a laser facial. Back in August, I started working with the Aventura skincare clinic to try and get back to the skin of my younger years. About a year ago something in my skin changed and I started to break out constantly. Ever since then I’ve been on a quest to put my best face forward. And what a mission it’s been. Creams, facials, peels, even prescription meds. I started to think nothing was going to…Read More

I Believe I Can Fly

{Adventure: The Flying Trapeze. Photographed by Jorge Camaraza} What did I do this weekend, you ask? I pretended to run away and join the circus at The Flying Trapeze. Jorge surprised me with the gift for our anniversary. And it was awesome. If you’ve ever dreamed of soaring in the sky while holding on to a bar, then letting go of that bar and trusting someone to catch your wrists and fling you though the air, then this is an adventure you need to add to your bucket list. So, what’s it like? Does it hurt? Is it scary? Well, you start by climbing a very tall ladder up to a narrow platform. All the while you are strapped in, so keep that in mind while you are looking down. Trust me, you’re safe. Wherever you go, someone is holding on to you via a rope. Once you reach the…Read More

Fashion for a Cause

I wish October was only known as the month where we dress up in fun costumes and enjoy sweet treats. I wish October wasn’t the month we had to think about how 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will develop beast cancer in their lifetime. I wish statistics like an estimated 246, 660 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women this year alone, weren’t a part of this month, or any other month for that matter. But, until we find a cure for breast cancer, those statistics are as much a part of our October as the last day of the month. And that’s why this month we put on pink and we raise awareness and funds for a cause that has affected so many of us— either directly or indirectly, through a loved one, a friend, even a fellow blogger. It’s why for a…Read More

Fall Staples: Sweater and Suede

{Wearing: AYNI Sweater and Skirt: c/o My Home Fashion Boutique. Maroon Suede Heels: c/o T.J. Maxx. Makeup: c/o Glamsquad with Celina Beach Artistry. Hair: c/o Glamsquad with Barbie Annitto Photographed by Danielle Margherite Photography LLC.} If there are six staples every Miami girl needs to fake it through fall, the first is a classic white tee, the second a black leather skirt. Next, a great pair of skinny jeans. Add in a lacy top. When it comes to the last two, make sure you have a suede skirt and a sweater, like these from AYNI, all of which you can find at My Home Fashion Boutique. This last look from my fall essentials series is my favorite. Suede is the go-to fabric this season and this skirt captures the whole ’70s vibe with its patchwork feel. With maroon taking the color wheel by storm, the must-have attraction to this skirt makes perfect sense. Since sweaters and Miami go…Read More
