The September Mood Board

Yes, it’s technically the month fall happens, but this is Miami and there’s no such thing—until at least December. Thinking about a change of seasons seems silly when there are still a million beach days ahead. Nevertheless, this is my minute transition into fall. Miami fall (aka still summer). I never sun my face. Instead, I’m digging the new Chanel Les Beiges as my glow alternative. It also has SPF 15, to keep sun-damaging rays at bay. Take that, wrinkles. When it comes to scents, I love to stock up on new ones seasonally. And no matter which time of year it is, I always opt for fruity over floral. This Crabtree & Evelyn Verbena and Lavender de Provence mixes French lemon verbena with lavender, cedarwood, white amber and tonka bean. It’s so fresh and so clean clean. Who doesn’t need a dose of good luck? This Cimber horseshoe ring…Read More

Migh-Tee

{Junk Food Clothing native diamonds tee. Target skirt. Gap denim jacket. Bracelet de Fil beaded bracelets. Vintage bag and shoes.} Music makes the people come together. Especially this weekend, when not only South By Southwest (as I mentioned here) is in session, but Miami gets its own dose of rhythm with Ultra. You’ve probably already seen the Ultra kids rolling (that’s me being funny) around town in tutus or neon this, that and the other. I’m all about costumes, but I won’t exactly take that route. I will, however, don a comfy tee for the electronic experience. Of which my anticipated lineup of mostly indie tendencies includes: Crystal Castles, tonight at 10 p.m., March 24 at 10 p.m. Hot Chip, Saturday at 8:20 p.m., March 23 at 11 p.m. Thievery Corporation, Saturday at 5:30 p.m., March 23 at 5:20 p.m. Matt & Kim, Saturday at 5:10 p.m., March 22 at…Read More

Back in Black and White

During Basel, I sat in on a lunch for Harper’s Bazaar where I got word that black and white stripes and patterns were going to be en vogue for spring. Let’s be honest, even if they weren’t, I was still going to wear them anyway. But knowing they were filled me with the kind of joy you get when you find the last pair of size 7s on the clearance rack. I have a block of my closet dedicated  to the color combo. Some of it is new. Most of it is vintage. Here’s an example I unearthed for a wedding I attended this past weekend when it was way cold and I needed sleeves. It wants to be Pucci, but it isn’t, but that’s OK because it is still on point for the season. Funny how something I scored it at thrift store adventure in Fort Lauderdale a decade…Read More

Hello, New York

And we’re off. Maria Tettamanti, the Wordy Girl before we set sail on Jet Blue to The Big Apple. {Me in Necessary Basics shorts. H&M tank. Ramona LaRue bandeau. Jessica Simpson motorcycle boots. Vintage elephant necklace.} I’m going to reveal some shocking info here: This is my first trip away from kid sans hubby and my second ever trip without kid ever. What can I say, I like these people, so I tend to hang out with them waaaaaayyyyy too much. Then there’s the whole I’m terrified of flying thing. But I’m spreading my wings and venturing out from my little 305 bubble, thanks to the help of my wingman, Maria. Once I kissed hubby and kid goodbye and dried my eyes, it was time to check in. Not only was my suitcase weighing in at more than me, it got an inspection, thanks to my beauty product hoarding, then I…Read More

A Little Birdie Told Me M.A.C. Has a Collaboration With Marilyn Monroe Coming Soon

Meet Mary Beth. She’s wearing an adorable black frock from Greylin from Project 159 in New York and on her lips she’s sporting M.A.C.’s Rare Exotic. This is Mary Beth Donohue. She works at M.A.C. Cosmetics. And yes, you want her job. She gets to talk about and play with makeup for a living. I caught up with her a little bit back and she shared the best news ever: This October, M.A.C. is launching a collaboration (a la Hello Kitty and Disney Villans) with Marilyn Monroe in honor of the starlet’s birthday. As a huge Marilyn fan, I personally cannot wait to see what the line has to offer. I’m hoping fire engine red lipsticks with that beautiful ’50s matte finish. Thick eyeliner. Beautiful blue shadows. But we’ll just have to wait and see. Here’s what I was able to scrounge up on the topic. Thanks for the scoop,…Read More

The Vultures That Ruined Jason Wu for Target

Waitin’. In the utterly insane things I do for fashion and my blog, I hauled myself out of bed at 6:45 this morning and headed to Target for Jason Wu. I was tempted to blow off the whole experience, because at 1:30 a.m. I logged onto Twitter and saw a link from @targetstyle to the cat scarf I decided I needed. Luckily, I was able to procure it. But we all know how Target online went down for Missoni, so I got up and at ‘em anyway, just in case. While throwing on clothes in the dark, I actually considered donning a Missoni for Target piece, to show that I’m a no-joke shopping warrior. But that turned out to be too much effort so early in the morning. So off I went in sweatpants. Upon my 7:30 arrival at Midtown Target, I found about 10 people in front of me….Read More
