Straight from the Designer's Mouth: My Interview with Alexis Isaias

Any one of these could have been yours if you shopped the Alexis sample sale today.

This morning, a carload of girlfriends and I drove to 5000 S.W. 75th Ave., ste 112 to shop the Alexis sample sale, where the local brand’s stunning wares were anywhere from 40 to 60 percent off regular prices. The minute we arrived, we encountered “the line,” a theme that would follow us throughout the day. And here’s why: Alexis is no longer a secret. It’s a staple for Miami’s fashionably conscious. The brand is growing in popularity by leaps and bounds, which isn’t a surprise, given the colors, cuts, fabrics and feel of the line. It just works for the Miami crowd. And it should. Designer Alexis Isaias understands what living, working and dressing in Miami means. She’s locally born and bred. Toss in her passion for fashion, her attraction to travel and a mom with design skills, and you have the birth of Alexis. I caught up with Isaias in the midst of her sale and got the scoop on her locally loved line. Ps, if you didn’t make it to the sale yet, you still have time. It resumes tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Where did you grow up? Miami, but I have traveled the world

How did the Alexis brand come about? My mom taught me fashion since I was a baby, so who better to start a clothing line than with her? I have always admired her sense of style, and together we are a dynamic duo. It began after we designed quite a few pieces for ourselves to wear during our summer in the Mediterranean. We received complements on the clothes everywhere we went, so we thought, “We can make this something huge. After all, fashion is our passion.”

How long have you been designing? I have been designing and customizing my own clothes since I was a little girl. I remember explaining my design in detail to a seamstress when I was only 5; still makes me laugh every time.

When it comes to Miami style, you just get it. Your dresses are lightweight. Your pants are wearable even during the summer months. Your fabrics have color, pattern. What is the Miami girl looking for when she gets dressed? How do you fill that need? I believe that not only Miami girls but Miami women seek fashion that is not only easy to wear but really makes them feel elegant and beautiful. Our clothes are so versatile that it makes getting dressed a lot of fun.

Who are some of your design inspirations? I am easily inspired. Vintage shopping and traveling are my top forms of inspiration. It is so important to stay on top of everything in order to be ahead.

Celebrity-wise, who would you most love to dress? Blake Lively.

Your sample sales are legendary. What is your advice for those coming? Come as early as possible, because the best pieces will always go first and, of course, the sizes are limited !

What should we be on the lookout for this year? Color/paperweight leathers and many more surprises.

What’s the best deal? There is a deal to be found in everything we have, whether its a dress, pants or a cool tee.

Where else can we find your designs? Our clothes are sold in more than 300 stores internationally. To name a few: Neiman Marcus, Intermix, Bloomingdale’s and Singer22.com. Our website has a complete list of everywhere Alexis can be bought.

What’s next for you? What can we expect from the next collection? The Alexis brand is skyrocketing. I wouldn’t want to spoil the surprises, but look out for our pop up shop sometime soon.

The line for the sale at 9:45 this a.m.

That’s a whole lot of clothes!

Me and my new pants in my pants I got at the last sale. Even better? I found my favorite dress in white. Score!
