My Favorite Spring Trend

Long live boho! As soon as it starts to heat up outside, I gravitate toward my favorite trend: boho chic. Luckily, thanks to the popularity of festivals like Coachella, this season the boho trend is on point for spring. From fringe to beads to gauzy tops and distressed bottoms, it’s a hippie dippie kind of world and I’m all over it. I recently hit up T.J Maxx and Marshalls to shop the trend for a piece just for my blog. If course, it’s spring break so kiddo was in tow to help me make my selections. And she’s just as big into the boho craze as I am. We started at the jewelry counter at T.J. Maxx, where we spied this bib necklace, which has a festival vibe with a glam angle. It instantly became the cornerstone for my whole look. What sucked me in was the color combo: coral, purple, aqua, silver and grey. So subdued. So pretty. It’s what I like to call high-maintenance hippie. I paired it with this flowy top from Marshalls, which, with all it’s strappy detail and easy, breezy wearability, is ideal for the Miami heat. I threw in my favorite new pair of jeans, these distressed mid-rise ankle jeans from American Eagle. (Disclaimer: they are supposed to be ankle length, but because I’m so vertically challenged, shall we say, they actually fit me the way regular jeans should. Hurray, no alterations!) And to kick up the sparkle factor, I added these strappy sandals with rhinestone detail. It’s an easy weekender look, and the muted palette is exactly what was on the runways of NYFW for spring. And it’s clear my fling with spring is in full force.

Spring isn’t only a time for new beginnings, btw, it’s also kiddo’s break from school, so we’ve been putting overtime in the hangout department. In fact, she shot this post for me and managed to save the day. This shoot alone had all the makings of an epic disaster. First, tripod lost a leg. It just fell right off. I’ve come to the sad realization that I am unkind to my gear. So, I borrowed a tripod, which I artfully left at home. Brilliant. Then, I get to this cute little spot on Lincoln Road and my remote in my camera up and dies. Because, clearly, it had sympathy pains for tripod. So, here I am at my locale with no tripod and no remote. With no other option, I hand camera to kid and hope for the best. She pulled it off like a boss. Gooooo, Mills. I’m going to miss hanging out with her next week when school starts back up, but I’m also looking forward to not juggling kid, work, social life, mom duties, keeper of the casa and the rest of the three-ring circus I call life. Let’s just say I’ve fallen asleep on top of the covers, lights on, fully clothed, TV blaring more than once this week. Oh, how the spring breaks of my life have changed.

Speaking of spring and the arrival of new things, to celebrate the grand opening of T.J. Maxx’s newest store in Miami at Fountain Square, West Flagler Street, I’m giving away a $50 gift card to one lucky reader. Just like this post on Instagram here¬†and T.J.
