This week, it’s all about food AND fashion.

South Beach Food & Wine Festival is practically here. You hear us, Q, we’re coming for you tomorrow night. While many of you are wondering what you’ll be gorging on in the upcoming weekend, the fashion set is wondering what outfits will wow at the fest. I stopped in at Isa Boutique this week to make a few selects on outfits that will get you though the gourmand gathering. These are my picks. I totally scored the striped tunic, which I’ll be donning as a dress come Sunday’s Grand Tasting Village. Here’s to seconds and savvy outfits. Cheers.

More options to take you from feasts to fetes at Wine & Food.

Attention Vintage Hoarders

V to the i to the n to the t to the a to the g to the e.

Last weekend, when I was cruising around Wnywood on the bike tour, I ran into Lester’s for some tea. Before I even got in the door, I saw it: A classic pic of a Vogue-esue lady with the word “Vintage” looming over her head. Adrenaline rush. Vintage shopping, for me, anyway, is the equivalent of a chocoholic biting into a rich, decadent truffle. I’m a junkie and knowing I can have something from the past that no one else will have is my fix. And I plan to completely fall off the wagon on Thursday, when the hipster haven magazine/coffee house turns into a vintage salon with designer pieces from around the globe. Turns out, the owner of Lesters’ wife is a stylist and has been working with vintage collectors to put the one-day pop-up together. We hear there will be Missoni, Versace, Fendi and more. The event starts at 6 and goes until 10 p.m. Lester’s is located at 2519 N.W. Second Ave., in Wynwood. See you there.

I'm With the Band

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday.

At midnight, on January 1, 2012, as I thought about all the things I’d do in the new year, one thing that never came to mind was singing with a band. But, a month and change in, that’s exactly what I’m doing. Singing. With. A. Band. You probably just stopped and asked yourself one of two questions: 1) Does she sing? and 2) Which band?

Yes, in fact, I do sing. And anyone I went to middle or high school, even college with knows this. Through choirs and a pageant (don’t even ask), I hit the stage with a mic and belted out some things in front of people. And then, somewhere along the way, I decided having people look at you while you sing is just, well, terrifying. And that’s when I stopped. Until tomorrow night. Inhale, exhale.

To answer your second question, the band is the Born Again Baldwins. Read more about them here in a quirky interview bandmate David Aaron did with MykLikes.com.

Better yet, come to Bardot tomorrow (Sunday, Feb. 19) at 11:30 p.m. and give the band a listen. I’ll be the one pretending like I’m not totally freaked out that you are looking at me. But it’s OK, I’ll just close my eyes and you’ll go away.

But don’t let that deter you from seeing a steller band. Between the song mash-ups and the energy these guys put out there, it’s definitely going to be one hell of a show.

Guitars and the guys who play them.

I got mixed in with the fun though David, whom I go to yoga with. He fell into the mix some years ago when he assembled family members and friends with instruments and the uncanny ability to take four songs and make them into one crazy awesome jam. And that’s how Born Again Baldwins was birthed. Along the way, they gather friends and invite them to play and sing along. And that’s how I’ll wind up on stage with a few Brits, a few Miamians and a New Yorker or two at Bardot on a late Sunday night.

11:30 p.m. to be exact. Don’t be late. You don’t want to miss this.

The majority of BAB’s core.

Meet the panelists.

Yesterday, I saddled up on a barstool on the Catalina’s rooftop and talked about social media in the beauty biz for Social Media Week, which made it’s Miami debut this year. The panelists, Stacy Provines Reid (@TinteCosmetics), Jenny Ortiz (@InterviewHer), Maygan Dale (@MayCupChic2), Nikki Nash (@SircleSamples) and myself (@gingdawn), shared our media strategies. Here’s what I learned:

1. Get the metrics on your blog. It’s important to know WHERE you’re base of readers is. I use Google Analytics for mine, but Hootsuite also has options.

2. It’s all about pics. Less words, more pics.

3. Twitter is the new black. Facebook, not so much.

4. Pink martinis with sugar around the rim are mmm, mmm good.

5. Set a blogging schedule for yourself and keep up with up.

6. Be honest. People like an honest blogger. Don’t say something is great if it isn’t. And be honest when it comes to comments.

7. There’s a new topcoat called Dazzle Dry that’s seriously super glues your polish to your nails. Complete must have.

I was really honored to be part of the panel. Being about to share and learn about this crazy online world we live in is always beneficial. And thanks to the audience members who brought up such great points and asked questions that really made us think.

As for Pinterest (a hot topic at the panel), I still have no idea what I’m doing, and now I have friends watching me do just that. Eventually, I’ll figure it out and put something up.

As for speaking in public — mission accomplished. And I survived.

Yum.

Attendee Lucy Lopez of shopmiamistyle.com asked great questions. Thanks, Lucy!

Me and Jaclyn Mullen, social media expert, and former Six Degrees intern. Love it when out kids move on to great things!

Is This Thing On ...

That’s me.

A few weeks back I mentioned doing something that scares me makes for a great blog post. Today, I’m facing that little demon head on when I join a panel about social media marketing and the beauty biz for Social Media Week. Although way more comfortable navigating the world from behind the safety of my laptop, today I’ll actually step out from behind my computer to talk about what I do in front of a group of people. Cue the cold sweat. Just kidding. Or not. If you have some time and no idea how to use Twitter, come on over. I promise not to picture you in your underwear while I’m speaking. (That’s a complete lie.)

Valentine's Day ... A Brief History Lesson

Sweet.

While you’re scarfing down chocolates and then squeezing yourself into lingerie (seriously, who thought of this holiday?), I thought I’d take a minute to give you the real deal history of February 14.

Legend has it back in the day, an evil Roman ruler named Claudius the Cruel put a ban on marriage in his kingdom. Why would he do such a thing? Because the men around town decided they’d rather stay home with their wives than go into battle. Oh, the jokes that stem from that little gem. More concerned with making war than love, this pushed Claudius over the edge and he banned marriage. Head-over-heels-in-love couples, who insisted on making it official, however could not be stopped and secretly married with the help of St. Valentine. When Claudius found out what Valentine was up to, he offed him. Hence, the first Valentine’s Day. It’s really not all about prix-fixe dinner menus, reservations races and chalk-flavored candy message hearts. We’re actually commemorating the death of someone who risked his life to bring people together. There’s something to think about while you’re poking the bottom of your Russell Stover chocolates to make sure you don’t get the coconut one.

Happy Valentine’s Day.

What to Wear on a Bike Tour

My wheels for the day.

As soon as I bought my tickets for the Miami Art Museum (MAM) Contemporaries Wynwood Bike Tour, my first thought what, “What does one wear to a bike tour?” And it’s a question that plagued me for a whole month. So much so, I actually quizzed people about it. And maybe I took pics of outfits and send them to Lauren Gnazzo, but we won’t get into that because it’s a tad of obsessive. But anyway …

So, the age old Q of what I am going to wear got put off until 30 minutes prior to the trip. And since we were headed into hipster country I gave my closet a hipster rundown. And here’s what I came up with:

I\

Was I really going to leave in knee socks?

Denim and a jumper, maybe?

Or giant husband hooodie?

In the end, it doesn’t matter what I picked. By the time I got to Wynwood Walls, the sun had blanketed itself with a massive cloud cover and the wind was threatening to chill me to the bone. I ended up unearthing whatever apparel I could scrounge up from the trunk of the car and threw it over what I left the house in.

That’s Marcella with a megaphone. And the girl who gave us the 411 on Wynwood Walls.

As we started off, we got into the intimate details of Wynwood Walls. I officially know enough about them to give my own tour.

Example: This is from Shephard Fairey. He used his wife as the face for two of the pieces here. The work features statements about the way in which we are raping the environment. Fairey was thrilled to put his work here, because not only is Wynwood Walls’ graffiti legal, it’s also maintained.

We actually heard from the artist responsible for this piece. It’s my favorite of the Wynwood Walls.

A piece dedicated to the people lost on 9/11, as well as the artists on personal loss of family members and friends. This piece is written in its own language.

It’s amazing what people can do with spray paint. I can’t even draw stick people with a pencil.

Liza’s envy-inducing bike.

After the walls, we took to our wheels. Most of us saddled up on Deco Bikes, provided by the tour. Liza Walton, however, brought her own. Her picnic-basket bike of goodness is so rad I can’t even stand it.

And we’re off.

Someone on the four-hour tour brought a flask of vodka along, but I’m not mentioning any names. (And no, mom, it wasn’t me.)

Graffiti art is mostly a male-dominated sport. But this purple wall was made completely by women.

Me and bike.

For a brief moment, the sun came out, it got really hot and I slipped back into my shorts (a la Clark Kent in the phone booth). Five minutes later, the sun went back on holiday and I nearly froze to death the rest of the tour. (Read, wear lots of layers on bike tours in unpredictable February Miami weather).

My favorite shot of the day.

And there you have it, graffiti by bike. The art was awesome. Riding a bike was awesome.

The tour was awesome. What’s not awesome, however, is a new rule Miami is supposedly putting into place. According to people on the tour, the city will stop fining graffiti artists for tagging work. They will now fine the building owners, which forces the building owners to paint over the unwanted graffiti. This all came about because work commissioned during Basel is now being tagged over my unknown graffiti artist, who are most likely menaces with spray paint cans. It’s just ironic that some graffiti is dubbed acceptable, while some is considered a nuisance, considering that’s how all graffiti artists got their start. Right, Banksy.

When Editors Play Ping Pong ...

Too late to back out now.

I somehow let myself get talked into playing in a ping pong tournament at Chalk last night. Truth is, prior to 9 p.m., I wasn’t sure I even knew how to play ping pong. I think I was officially 9 the last time I played. Minor details.

Sure, she looks super friendly, but Liz Newman takes no prisoners.

Some of my favorite people were there: Thrillist’s Liz Newman, Huffington Post’s Janie Campbell, Ocean Drive’s Dirk DeSouza. Prior to facing off against Miami’s editor pool, I got a few practice rounds in with Liz. Guess what? She actually knows how to play. Damn. This did not bode well for me. But she was kind enough to teach me how to serve. With Liz being too good for my green horn status, I moved on to Janie, who was more at my speed (read, we both kind of suck). Sadly, Janie wouldn’t be my competition for the evening. That would have been too fair.

Prior to pairing us up, someone attempted to give a room full of journalists a rundown on the rules, which went a little something like this: This is how you play ping pong, followed by 1,000 questions like: “What happens if it hits here?” And “Who invented the ping-pong ball?” “What was your inspiration for this tournament?” “What other types of competitions do you have planned for the future?” “Can we get a quote about what ping-pong means to you?” It was like the media pit at the White House. This is what happens when you corral a room full of people who ask questions for a living. Luckily, there were no written instructions for us to copy edit for grammar and sentence structure.

Completely inappropriate ping-pong attire.

As for pairing, I got matched up with Liz. Thrillist versus Daily Candy. Whoa. And I, representing the girly editorial portion of this showdown, came completely inappropriately dressed for the occasion in a mini and tetter-tottering heels (I had a Soho date to see DJ Marcella Novela after). So, I took on Liz, zipping this way and that in my six inchers. Diving over the table in my skirt. Flipping and flopping my paddle. Giving her a real run for her money. Er yeah, that’s how I’m choosing to remember it. And not that she beat the pants off me 2-11.

Janie is the world’s best practice partner.

Tara also did it in heels. Albiet it much better than I did.

Liz actually went on to the final challenge. Giving just about everyone a run for their money. Damn, that girl knows how to play ping pong. She’s a damn good editor, too.

Next time, I challenge my A.P. Style-editing brothers and sisters to a game of mini golf. I’m not joke with the putter and the windmill.

Ping pong, not so much.

Wu Wu Woo

Meow.

Lookie lookie what arrived at mi casa today! My Jason Wu for Target cat scarf. I guess Target worked out its online kinks after all.

This thing is HUGE. And it’s sheer. In fact, it’s so big, I’ve decided to don it as a coverup/sarong for the beach/pool. It should work perfectly with the 1.2 thousand black bathing suits I have (because, for whatever reason, I can’t bring myself to buy one with color).

My only complaint:

#Fail.

This horrid “for TARGET” stamped on the side. Was that REALLY necessary? It’s obvs I got it at Target. It’s the Jason Wu scarf with the cat on it. Where else did it come from? So to do this is just uncalled for. I’ll just be sure to knot up that side when I’m donning it poolside.

So long, Mai Tardi

Later!

On Wednesday night, the Design District bid adieu to one of its cooler spots: Mai Tardi. The Italian restro came courtesy of Graziano Sbroggio. With a packed house for it’s closing party, (which I found, by the way, on a cool event site in Miami called Myk Likes) one has to wonder: Why would this place close up shop? That’s the exact question I asked Sbroggio. His answer: He sold the business. Turns out, the whole building is being purchased so it can be knocked down and rebuilt and added on to.

Personally, this crushes me. Mai Tardi (which has these amazing rice and cheese balls) isn’t your typical Miami dining experience. It’s so al fresco, it feels like you are part of the night, rather than at a restaurant at night. I spent some fun times there during Basel and Fashion Week. The best part of those times was being inside/outside smack in the middle of the Design District, under the starry sky, surrounded by trees, relaxing on a couch. So undinner-like. So un-pretentious Miami.

This unique space, with it’s mosaic walls, will soon be no more. And what will go in it’s place? Whatever it is has not yet been revealed. But I’m assuming because the Dacra powers that be made the decision to do away with the space that it won’t be nearly as cool as what’s there now. Though, with the onslaught of fashion opens in the area, we could be in for a designer surprise. As for whether or not Mai Tardi will enhabit a new space in the DD is yet to be determined. But we can hope.

To fun nights under the Miami sky. So long, Mai Tardi.

Mai Tardi officially closes its doors on Saturday after gallery walk.

Plus, I got a call from The Daily today asking for my side of the story. Hello, Rupert.

And I thought I was just going to Target to get some Wu. What a mad, mad, mad, mad, mad world.

That's Me Explaining WuGate to NBC6

Yup, I’m wearing Jason Wu for Target in front of Target while talking about WuGate.

Sunday morning when I rolled into the parking lot of Target Midtown, I honestly just thought I was going to get a cat scarf from the Jason Wu for Target launch. I had NO IDEA I would run into fashion vultures, take pics, make a blog post out of it, get more traffic than I’ve had in my entire life, be reposted to local and national news sources and wind up doing an on-air interview about the whole ordeal. In the words of my dear friend Buster, ”fight for your right for cute scarves.” Right on. Right on.

Here’s my interview with NBC6 and a story, too.

Video

[Flash 10 is required to watch video.]

WuGate on Electric Blogarella Gets Pick Up by ...

WuGate hits Perez Hilton and The Hollywood Reporter.

I’ve also heard it was picked up by a local station in Cali.

Interview for NBC6 coming up in just a few!

It’s just another Makeup Monday here at Electric Blogarella. And while I’m all wrapped up in Make-Up Designory’s squeezable mascara, the impending makeover for Valentine’s Day is on the mind. Luckily, if you live in Miami, there are enough V-Day trunk shows and makeover parties to make us all glamazons. If you’re looking to beautify for the 14th, here’s where to go for the goods:

NailBar in Midtown is offering gel mani ($35), threading ($25), lashes ($180) and makeup ($35) all at a discount from Feb. 8 through Feb. 14.

Salon Vaso wants to you call your girlfriends and make it a spa day with Mini Makeovers (single process organic hair color with sealer, manicure and pedicure, glass of champagne, $100). There’s also Party Before the Party packages (makeup application, manicure and pedicure, blowout, glass of champagne, $125) and Head to Toe Makeovers (extensions, blowout, manicure and pedicure, lash tint, glass of champagne, $250). All available Valentine’s Day.

Rik Rak gets in on the action with the launch of its new Terrace on Friday, Feb. 10 and Saturday, Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. To celebrate, Varelli is hosting a trunk show with amazing jewelry. Enjoy champagne, snacks and then get a new cut and color to spruce up for the 14th. After all, you will be at the salon. Why not ‘do it up?

And there may not be makeup at Our Prince of Peace’s V-day show at The Closet Boutique, but you can see in-person Mr. Acosta’s new line when it debuts this Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. Sip champagne with strawberries as you slip into his line of uber body conscious duds. Hello, haute!

Waitin’.

In the utterly insane things I do for fashion and my blog, I hauled myself out of bed at 6:45 this morning and headed to Target for Jason Wu. I was tempted to blow off the whole experience, because at 1:30 a.m. I logged onto Twitter and saw a link from @targetstyle to the cat scarf I decided I needed. Luckily, I was able to procure it. But we all know how Target online went down for Missoni, so I got up and at ‘em anyway, just in case. While throwing on clothes in the dark, I actually considered donning a Missoni for Target piece, to show that I’m a no-joke shopping warrior. But that turned out to be too much effort so early in the morning. So off I went in sweatpants. Upon my 7:30 arrival at Midtown Target, I found about 10 people in front of me. No biggie. I run fast.

As the door promptly opened at 8, we raced in and headed over to the clothing and accessories. But guess what? They were gone! How was that even possible? I was one of the first people in the doors.

Big. Fat. Nothin’. In. Accessories.

The what’s left options.

All that remained (after I snatched up a few things), were larger-size dresses and tops. Things the mass of present shoppers could not wear. Things the vultures didn’t want to resell on Ebay.

Battle Royale. The guy in the green shirt and the greedy woman behind the cart are the vultures.

So, where did everything go? These people, who the mob of angry shoppers dubbed “The Vultures Who Ruined Jason Wu for Target,” came in and took everything. And by everything, I mean everything except what the few of us were able to grab before he did. It all happened so quickly, none of us knew where everything went. We just saw a wannabe mastermind duo with two carts and everything from the collection in it. And that’s when things got ugly. A woman, who had been waiting in line as long as the rest of us, said she wasn’t going to tolerate that and took something out of the vultures’ carts. The male vulture showed her. Her husband threatened him. The police got involved. And then the insults started to fly. The rest of us who were shopping for ourselves with no plans to resell got mad. How was it fair that this guy was taking everything and then telling people around him they could “buy it off him outside?” The angry mob called over the management and asked them to intervene. And they did. They took him aside and told him it wasn’t allowed. But a call to corporate Target told them they were not allowed to enforce such a limit on items. And then we were back to square one.

Cops getting involved after male vulture shoved the woman on the left. Check out the cart of his partner in crime. That’s just wrong.

Management stepping in. Vultures getting defensive.

The mob of angry Wu-ers filming and photographing the vultures for blogs and Facebook.

With corporate Target’s OK, the store was forced to sell the entire collection to these people. And people started to get loud. I think this scared the vulture duo, and the male vulture told us if we got in line, he would let us have one thing from his pile. So people lined up. And waited. And as soon as someone requested a scarf or handbag, he took back his offer. Clothes only. I’m sorry but when did this guy become the dark overlord of Jason Wu for Target? What an ego maniac. And the insults began to hurl again. I might have called him a few expletives and highlighted the fact that he was a horrible person, but I swear it was only because I got sucked into the mob mentality. In the end, I left to try on my spoils — the few things these poachers couldn’t get to before I did. What I wound up with was …

This great red shirt.

And this cute blouse with bow detail. P.S. that’s my Eugenia Kim for Target fedora. What can I say, I’m a seasoned veteran at this.

No, it’s not the white blouse with bow detail I’d hoped for, but that was only available online and it says sold out even though I never saw it go on sale. But this will do.

Other things I tried on were the red striped tee dress, but it was a little too baggy for my taste. Same with the cat tee. I prefer my tees a little more fitted. But if you got your hands on the cat tote, kudos. The other handbag quality wasn’t up to snuff for me. But the overall quality of the collection seems not bad, not bad at all, considering it’s Jason Wu for $26.

As for the vultures, they left the store with a police and Target security escort team, because they were scared. And they should be. What they did is wrong and it makes people angry. I’m sure they’ll go home now and load up their stuff on Craigslist and Ebay for six times the price. But hopefully people will be smart enough to not buy into it.

I just want to say shame on corporate Target for not taking a stand to prevent things like this from happening. Local Target was ready to put an end to it, but not corporate. While a limit has been placed online (two of one item per person), none have been enforced in stores. And until they are, these capsule collections will continue to get snatched up by one and two people who have no intention of doing anything but reselling them for marked-up prices, thus pooping in the fashion pool and ruining the fun for the rest of us.

It’s a shame that such a great idea has been taken to such an all-time low.

Apparently, Target hasn’t learned anything since the great Missoni debacle of 2011.

As for my scarf, only time will tell if they’ve worked out their online drama.

God help us if there’s ever a Karl Lagerfeld for Target. (As if.)

Wedding Dress

And the bride wore … I have no idea what...

Wedding Dress

And the bride wore … I have no idea what the bride wore because the wedding hasn’t happened yet, but I’m wearing a BCBG tulle and lace dress reminiscent of the ’50s. Accessorizing the look are a vintage satin clutch and shoes and a rose-cut diamond necklace from my own wedding. The bride, by the way, is Nicole and the groom is Warren. Yup, Warren Zinn is settling down. It may not be fashion news, but it’s big news in Miami. Good luck to those kids.

Wu-Hoo!

See the collection preview here.

While the rest of you are getting all psyched up for the big game, we fashionistas are gearing up for tackles of our own tomorrow when Target opens its doors at 8 a.m.

Because that’s when Jason Wu for Target makes its debut. I’ve been spying the collection online for months now. You can see the whole collection here. And I’m ready to snatch up a few scarves, as well as this white blouse, which I am fully prepared to rock with sequin shorts.

Of course, I’ll be on the scene at 8 a.m. (because for whatever reason, Target only buys sizes 1 and extra small in very limited quantities, which means if there are any other petite people alive, I’ll be left with nothing). Hopefully, the scene won’t be anything like Missoni for Target, the last designer collab for the big box store. I was there. It was insane. I made it out alive with the entire scarf collection. I thought I would be shot for them. I. Am. Not. Exaggerating. One. Bit. Ask Lauren Gnazzo.

Tune in tomorrow when I show off my spoils, considering I don’t get taken down by designer bargain-istas who are prepared to tackle for Target duds.

FYI: There’s also an Anna Wintour interview during the big game tomorrow. Screw commercials. I’m getting a full-on fashion fix.

Not sure what the name means, love the sound, tho.

Did we really make it to Friday? It appears we did. Let’s celebrate with a playlist to get us through this weekend, of which the possibilities are endless.

And, as always, if you’re going to listen to it, listen to it loud. Now put on your heels and go out and have some fun.

Say hello to Stella & Dot.

Here at Casa Harris, I like to e-mail links of things I like to the husband come holiday time (please, you know you and every other wife and girlfriend on the planet does the exact same thing, so least ye be judged). And since Valentine’s Day is on its way, I’ve decided a post may even be more effective than a link. This is, assuming husband actually reads said blog posts. He’d better. Anyway, I recently hosted my first Stella & Dot party with my friend Jamie. Why? Because who doesn’t want to play dress-up with jewelry on a Wednesday morning? And, like I said, I needed to give the husband some fodder for gift ideas. Plus, I learned something about my jewelry preferences.

Turns out, I’m obsessed with statement bib necklaces.

Hint, hint: This would make a nice V-Day gift pour moi.

This giant gold-toned monster is my favorite piece from the collection. And the smarty pants’ at Stella & Dot were brilliant enough to line the back of it with fabric so it doesn’t scratch you or make you shiver every time the metal touches your skin.

But I’ll settle for this one as a backup.

This chain bib is also a cool piece to pair with jeans and a white tank, you know, for those of us who still like to rock the silver-toned jewels.

Another favorite from the line is this tassel multitasking necklace. A hook let’s you make the necklace shorter or longer, based on your preference. Plus, I like how it plays into my whole flapper haircut vibe. Think of it as a modern-day knotted pearl necklace like they wore back in the Roaring ’20s.

Are you taking notes here, David?

Yeah, I think I’m going to have to have this one. GIANT HINT HINT. Photo by Maria Tettamanti

There’s also tons of rings and earrings (though I can’t really rock that last accessory with the current hairdo, which I think is why I’m all about the bibs these days).

Finger candy. Photo by Maria Tettamanti

So, if you’re feeling the need to send a link to your significant other, go here and click this. It’s never to early to start dropping hints.
