The advent of the blow dry bar may just be the best invention since press-on nails (read: anything that simplifies your beauty routine is mmm, mmm good.) Hip hip hurray for Bdry Blow Dry Bar. The spot opens Monday just off Lincoln Road on 17th Street, across from Macy’s. I stopped in, chatted up stylists Birttney Byrd, Katarina Wean and partner Omid Lari to get the scoop on the new digs.
From the styling menu, I opted for the Bdry, which works for long, short, curly, wavy, what-have-you hair. But there’s also the B. Glamorous for retro looks, The B. Extravagant for volume junkies and the B. Glamorous for wave-seekers, all of which are outlined on an iPad parked at every station in the salon.
When I spun around in my chair, I admired my sleek bob stylist Rene Flores gave me. Then, it was off to makeup for the rest of the transformation. Yup, Bdry offers professional makeup artists doing what they do best.
I got mine done with McLaine Oberhellmann. She is a smokey eye master (and she has her own Etsy store). The salon uses products from Youngblood, which is a great paraben-free mineral line. McLaine also whipped out a box of magic colors from Make Up For Ever that kind of blew my mind. You can mix and match the shades with existing colors to get the exact look you are going for. The black makes an excellent liner, too. She also shared this little tip: Go for the gold. Adding a hint of gold powder in the center of a nude lip gives a fuller appearance.
I left the salon feeling photo shoot ready, which is exactly where I headed for the Fashion for a Cause campaign. Pics of that to come later this week. In the meantime, check out Bdry at at 765 17th St.
