Fact: I spent one whole day driving from one end of Miami to the other to find props to recreate two vintage pics I found on Pinterest for this year’s Escape Miami Style Lounge exhibit. Why? I might be a tad crazy, partially obsessed and dedicated as hell. Once I get a picture in my head, I just have to see it through to the end. I chalk it up to my Aries-ness. This year, knowing I was shooting at The National Hotel for the project, I let myself get inspired by the Art Deco architecture, my love of bygone days and upcoming Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. I’ll always be a retro girl at heart, and having a stylist who can whip up the best vintage hairdos ever (thanks Todd at Nue Studio), how could I not make the most of an opportunity to play pin-up for the day? Especially when it lent to transforming Mills into a retro baby?
But there was a lot more to this than just creating a fun pic. For me, this was a chance to be a part of the bigger picture, to connect with Miami’s blogging community and support my fellow blogger sisters. It’s a beautiful thing when a community unites to create art. Mills and I joined 45 bloggers to create the photo project, dubbed “Our Summer Stories.” Photographed by Alexander Tamargo, the pics will be on display at this year’s Escape Miami Style Lounge at The National Hotel. You’ll want to secure your tickets asap, as they are limited and you won’t want to miss the fashion and beauty bash, put on by The National Hotel Miami Beach, Peroni Nastro Azzurro and The Fashion Poet. Once you secure your spot you’ll experience freebies, like complimentary cocktails and bites, spa and beauty treatments (think haircuts and beard trims for guys and mini manicures and beach waves for gals). There’s also tattoo application, fashion sketches and DIY flower crown classes. It’s just what you need to regroup during Swim Week madness. A fashion show kicks off at 3 p.m. and this year there’s a guy’s corner to keep the gents entertained while girls peruse the pop-up shop.
