Summer Anthems

When I look back on summer 2013, these are the songs that will be on repeat in my head when I reflect. I realize I spent a big portion of the summer in a synthesizer pop haze. And it worked out just fine, thanks. Such a child of the ’80s … while fashionably such a child of the ’70s.

“Phantastic Phone Call” — Alexander Dexter Jones (Thanks to Zig)

“This Must Be the Place” — Talking Heads (From the movie I watched over and over and over all summer long)

“Money Rain Down” —Big Black Delta  (A modern day Talking Heads because the addiction was real and I couldn’t get out from under it)

“My Number” — Foals (For me. That one was just for me)

“You’ve Got Time”—Regina Spektor (For Maria and our Netflix obsession)

“I Love It” — Icona Pop (For Milly, because otherwise I would not be able to tolerate this)

“Blister in the Sun” —Violent Femmes (Kids these days need a cult classic)

“Walkabout” —Atlas Sound  (Because sometimes you just need a happy song with happy lyrics, dammit)

“Love Me”—Lil Wayne (For old school friends doing kitchen jigs)

“It Was a Good Day”— Ice Cube (A few of those happened, I won’t deny that)

“Conversation 16” — The National (For sanity’s sake)

“You and I” — Wilco (Because best friends don’t just come and go, they last forever, ever)
