Here’s How You Can Win Free Tickets to Vizcaya’s 31st Annual Halloween Sundowner

It’s no secret I LOVE HALLOWEEN. For me, it’s the most wonderful time of the year! The picking a costume, the going to the craft store to make it, the putting it together, the hair, the makeup, and then the BIG REVEAL. I LOVE ALL OF IT (maybe a little too much.) So, this year when Vizcaya asked me judge its 31st Annual Halloween Sundowner I said absolutely. The party takes place on Saturday, October 28 at 8 p.m. to midnight, with the contest running from 8-10 p.m. The winner will be announced at 10:30 p.m. Categories include: Best Male, Best Female, Best Couple and Best Group. There will be music, cocktails flowing and enough costumes to fill your Instagram story for hours and hours. Plus, it’s all outside in the stunning historic gardens beneath the moon. This year, the theme is Mystery, Myth and Fantasy, so dress to impress. No,…Read More

The Great Oblication: From Miami to Moab, Utah and Arches National Park

How do you manage to go from this … to this … in the same trip? I guess, the same way your 9-year-old can cram all of this into her “what I did on my summer vacation” illustration below. It’s called the “oblication,” as in taking a trip you are obligated to take and turning some aspect of it into a vacation. And if this family is good at anything, it’s taking a trip and turning it into an adventure. One that I should get to telling, though it will take me the next few months to do. It seems like just yesterday, though, I was crammed in a car with my Brady Bunch family driving from the tip of Colorado to the desert, winding up in Las Vegas for my first time—well, all of our first times, sans Jorge—for a work trip. And the in between, well, that was the best…Read More

Getting Back to N-IRMA-L

{Wearing: Lucy Shorts and Calvin Top: Ramona LaRue.} It’s amazing how much can change in a week in a half. Here I am during the carefree pre-Irma days at my faithful lifeguard stand photo backdrop. Little did I know here that weeks later, this lifeguard stand, along with the rest of South Florida, would take a nasty beating. As news of hurricane Irma loomed, Miami being its direct target, I packed up my family, a few photos and mementos and headed as far north as the traffic would let me. I’m not one to stick around for hurricanes. Nine hours (instead of 3.5) to Orlando later, we sat back and wondered what would happen as Irma wobbled around threatening every single part of the state. This being the first real storm South Florida has had in the social media age, we watched as our neighborhoods, our favorite spots and even…Read More

Irma Talk About Hurricanes Now …

{Wearing: One-piece: Gooseberry Seaside So Chic Long Island. Sunnies: Shopblush.com. Photographed by Jorge Camaraza} That’s me, riding alongside the black walls of  storms running me out of Bimini exactly 24 hours after I arrived. Those are the same storms created by Harvey. As in the Harvey that pillaged Texas. Back then it was just a tropical storm. A tropical storm that died and somehow came back to life … with a vengeance. A White Walker storm, if you will. Now here I am just weeks later looking at this thing called Irma headed straight for Florida. And here’s what I have to say about that … Well, we’ve pissed off Mother Nature. Oh, climate change isn’t real, they said. Global warming doesn’t exist, they said. And then they duct taped the mouths of organizations that monitor such things. As they say, hell hath no fury like a mother scorned. So, here…Read More

The Seekender’s Guide to Miami Beach

{Photographed by Jorge Camaraza}  Summer, the season of travel. A time to go see the world, do something new, scratch something off that bucket list you’ve been carrying around. This summer, while I’m running off to see corners of the world, others will make their way to this little plot of sand I call home. As much as I love helpful hints on where to go and what to see on my journeys, I feel its only fitting for me to do the same of my own city. That being said, welcome to Miami Beach. As a Seekender for Hampton by Hilton, I’ve traveled most of my adventures via motorcycle, seeing Colorado and the Pacific Coast Highway via Indian bike. If you’re on your own Hampton by Hilton Seekender journey, keep in mind Miami Beach is great via bike, too. But this terrain calls for bicycle instead of something with…Read More

That’s a Wrap: MKT by Baz Baz

{Wearing: Leggings and top: LiquidoActive. Photographed by Adorned Photography.} Exploring ways to make not just ourselves, but the community we live in thrive is awesome, which is why I happily joined forces to help promote MKT by bazbaz. If you’ve been here recently, you’ll notice I have more than a few posts dedicated to it. What Albert and his team have done is really special. It says Miami has grown up a lot. And as much as we like dancing, clubs and music, we also see the bigger picture about taking care of ourselves and the place we live. It’s about supporting local businesses that use organic products. It’s about supporting local yoga studios, where you’ll learn how to exhale all that stress that’s causing your shoulders to cramp up. It’s about making a connection with our community. If you didn’t get a chance to make it to the final edition…Read More

That’s a Wrap: Looking Back at MKT’s Balance & Connect Edition

This past Saturday, I got the amazing opportunity to stand in front of an audience and share what wellness means to me, thanks to MKT by bazbazaz‘s Balance & Connect edition, the open-air market in Wynwood that focuses on sustainability. And it was awesome. For me, wellness is a harmony of eating well, exercise and reducing stress. While all of that sounds picture perfect, actually creating a balance and connecting with it, well, that’s where things get tricky. It’s not easy at all to find balance. It’s work. And that’s why we brought in experts to help us find  way to connect with the good stuff, the stuff that makes you feel good. Rodrigo Martinez from Jucy Lu stepped up to the mic to talk about how juicy can get your mind, body and spirit in a better place. We based GMOs, we praised organic, we talked about how much energy the…Read More

What’s Coming Up: Wellness at MKT

{Wearing: Liquido. Photographed by Adorned Photography} Looking back over this past weekend, there were a lot of great things that happened. For instance: Mother’s Day, the MKT market. In case you missed it, MKT by bazbaz in Wynwood hosted a weekended dedicated to organic beauty, dubbed  The Naked Truth edition. Not only was it a great opportunity to gain some insight on how to green your beauty routine with The Fashion Poet and Beautycounter, it was also perfect for snatching up sustainable products from the 40-plus vendors at the market—maybe even a little something for mom. I’m excited to announce I’ll be hosting the next one, which is dedicated to wellness. And since we all need more of that in our life, stay tuned more on all the cool programming to come!

Your Saturday Plans, Miami, at MKT

Attention, Miami. I have your Saturday plans. We’re going to go to MKT by bazbaz in Wynwood. Why? Because it’s good for you. Literally.  The open-air market is based around socially conscious products and eats. You can expect 40-plus local vendors, and we all know how I feel about shopping local. There’s more. Like live music. And get this, this particular edition is all about organic beauty. Because it’s not just about what you put in your body, it’s also about what you put on it. Dubbed The Naked Truth edition, my blogger sister The Fashion Poet will be there sharing clean makeup tips, too, at 3 p.m. There will also be five-minute hair and makeup tutorials by Beautycounter to help you beautify at 3;30. And if you still haven’t gotten something for mom (no judgements) this is literally your last chance. But what you will give her will be…Read More
