Beauty Board: Creams, Candles and Chemical-Free Concoctions

Glowing, Glowing, Gone

My dermatologist recently told me I was too tan. And just when I was starting to feel like a golden goddess, too. I guess that means it’s time to cover up more and fake it with Hampton Sun Airbrush Bronzing Mist and Xen Tan Flawless Logic Shimmer. Both go on easily and give me the color without the side effects (wrinkles, sun damage, skin cancer). And they smell good, too.

Speaking of sun, trying to keep my makeup in place in Miami in the summer is like trying to play catch with Jell-O. (Read, ain’t happenin’.) Eve Lom Sheer Radiance Translucent Powder helps me prepare for battle before stepping out in the heat, by locking in my makeup and giving me a glow. Find it at Neiman Marcus.

Because the heat and sun damage are such issues, I’m trying to be kind to my pores with Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot Radiance Boosting Mask. It fills in, soothes and boosts, which, at this point, I’ll take all the help I can get. Find it a Neiman Marcus.

Burning It at Both Ends of the Wick

Candles are the melatonin of interior decorating. Not only do they change your mood for the better, they smell amazing. This month, I’m burning this custom (it has my name on it!) candle from INL Collection. What I love, aside from it proudly boasting my identity, is that these candles are made right here in Miami. Talk about the perfect gift for someone. Plus, the essentials oils used give them an intoxicating scent. And because it’s summer and a fruity scent is a must this time of year, I also added this Voluspa Saijo Persimmon scented candle to my room so I can relax while I take in a good book before bed. Find both at Lapis Spa at the Fontainebleau.

And speaking of candles, finding a matching scent in a diffuser doubles the pleasure, kind of like this Lemongrass and Ginger offering from Nest at Neiman Marcus. I like to spruce up my guest bath with these scent-scational products, but not only do they smell yum, they also look sophisticated.

Face It

Now that I’m 36, I will try just about anything to make my skin look and feel like it did when I was 18. When my NuFace Mini Facial Toning gadget arrived I had to admit it looked like a lot of fun. And the name, yup, that’s exactly what’s I’m looking for. The truth is, it works, too. I felt fresher and let go of some of the gilt from falling asleep in my makeup twice this past week. Don’t judge, It happens. The best part about this little contraption,  it only takes five minutes a day. I can absolutely make time for that. Plus, the Anti-Aging Infusion Serum Set made me feel even better about that little non-wash transgression. Each bottle comes with a different step, so you aren’t left wondering what goes when or where or how. You can use the serum’s with or without the device. But if you have it, go for it. It works the solution in deeper, which means your skin is getting even more of what it needs. Find both at Neiman Marcus.  Of course, you’ll still need to wash your skin with the right stuff daily. Like …

Lather, Rinse, Repeat

Washing the day off your face is not only refreshing, it’s necessary. Makeup, sweat, all the stuff we put our skin through throughout the course of the day, well it’s a lot. Do something nice, like this combo from Neiman Marcus. Start by washing off your makeup with the Trish McEvoy Long Wear Face and Eye Makeup Remover. Next, apply the Lift Lab Skin Generation Daily Cleanser and Detox Mask. It’s a really cool concept, as it’s a daily wash that also acts like a mask to exfoliate skin and give it back its glow. Lastly, about once a week, get scrubbing with Omorovicza Refining Facial Polisher. Your skin will thank you. I know mine has.

Go Green

At a recent luncheon at Hakkasan at Fontainebleau Miami I listened to an employee from Tata Harper explain how the brand was founded on the fact that Tata’s father was diagnosed with cancer and his doctor told him to throw out all of his products and use only organic ones. Having a hard time find those, Tata Harper created the line. Going green isn’t just a trend, it’s a must. Your body absorbs everything you put on it, so why would you want to fill yourself with toxic chemicals? These options are green, good and just as good as any other product out there. Have you tried the Rejuvinatig Serum from Tata Harper at Lapis Spa? Trust me, you won’t go back. If you’re looking for somewhere to start to make even more of a change do this:

Give your face wash up for Osea Skincare’s Algae Oil. Then, trade in your body oil for an actual piece of algae, which will give skin a smoothing sensation. Both products are vegan, biodegradable and made with certified organic seaweed. Find them at Lapis Spa, which carries mostly organic options when it comes to beauty.

Next, throw out your perfume and give 21 Drops a shot. Not only will you smell divine, the natural essential oils used in the products have healing benefits, like helping calm your nerves, helping you relax before bed, even pepping you up with you need a little bit of energy. Find all 21 scents at Lapis Spa.

Still using cheap polish on your nails? Stop it! Swap it out for Probelle TouchnGo Plus, which uses garlic and lim (look, things you can pronounce) to strengthen nails. You’ll start to see the effects of the base in about two to four weeks. It’s really made a difference with my flimsy nails.

And last but not least, invest in the WooBamboo toothbrush. Why? It’s not made out of plastic, which means its not made out of toxins, and it’s biodegradable, which means you aren’t harming Mother Nature.
