A Funny Story About Birthdays and Balloons

{Kiddo in all her 9th birthday glory.} I was scrolling through Instagram about a month or so back and I spotted a pic of a girl surrounded by balloons. It was insta (pun intended) love. Totally recreating this for my annual bday shoot. And I’ll do one for kid, too (we’re a whopping four days apart.) I could see it now, it was going to be epic. So after school last week, I picked up kid, hit to the local party store, picked out three dozen balloon in spring hues and then waited an hour while one guy filled all of them. One. At. A. Time. For whatever reason I managed to muster the patience of a saint. This was, after all, going to be the best picture ever. EVER. So here I am shoving three dozen-plus balloons into my Jeep only to get home, set them up and realize…Read More

An Open Letter to 1-Year-Old Me On My 39th Birthday

{Now.  Photographed by Jorge Camaraza} {Then} Dear Me, This is you, on your first birthday 38 years ago. Yup, you make it to 39. So, here I sit, imparting the wisdom I’ve achieved in my last year of my 30s. I think it’s safe to say a lot will change. First instance, you will not be this fat. In fact, you’ll be so damn skinny everything you own will need to be altered. During the Kate Moss era, this will make you feel awesome. During the Kardashian age, not so much. On the plus side, seamstresses will love you. Eventually, you will learn to be comfortable in your own skin. But it’s going to take a loooooooong, loooooooooong time. But that’s not the only thing that will change along the way. There will be giant triumphs. You’ll grow your very own best friend. You’ll have jobs that, while they are…Read More

Walk a Mile in My Andre Assous Shoes

{Wearing: Dress: Touch Dolls. Denim Jacket: Forever 21. Sneakers: c/o Andre Assous Champ Platform Espadrille Sneaker.}   I don’t always wear sneakers but when I do … No, I almost never wear sneakers. Unless I’m running, which I also almost never do. I’m not a sneaker fan. For the gym, fine. But out there in the real world? With non-gym clothes? That’s just not me. Nope. Can’t. When I spotted these sneaker/espadrille hybrids, called Champ, from Andre Assous, it was love at first sight. Maybe it’s the platform. Maybe it’s the hand-sew espadrille. Maybe it’s the cute gold detail on the heel. Whatever it was, I knew I could walk more than a few miles in these shoes (read: they are as cute as they are comfy). Even crazier, I paired them with a dress. That’s also something I don’t do. And I liked it. A lot. So here’s the…Read More

Spring, Er, Summer is Coming

{Wearing: Top and Leggings: Liquido. Photographed by Adorned Photography.} It’s almost spring in Miami, which means its practically summer, which means plenty of beach days ahead. And Miami and the beach go together like, well, Miami and the beach. That’s why I’m doing something I’ve been wanting to do for eons now: Laser hair removal. About a month ago I started working with BodyDetails to make my underarms super smooth just in time for summer. The idea of never having to shave again sounds amazing. Truly amazing. My skin is super sensitive, so shaving plus heat equals not always great. This is an excellent way to combat that. I worked with the brand to create this video so you can see what it’s all about. Does it hurt? How long does it take? Will it ever grow back? All the deets are in this BodyDetails video below. Check it out.

Casual Fri-yays

{Wearing: My Home Fashion Boutique Top and Denim. Shoes: Steve Madden. Hair: c/o Glamsquad with Vanessa Placeres. Makeup: c/o Glamsquad with Celina Beach Artistry. Photographed by Danielle Margherite Photography LLC} Spring is coming, which means it’s time to clean out your closet and toss out that stuff you insisted you needed last year that now you’re like, “Uh, what was I thinking when I a) bought this and b) actually wore it—in public—and then took photos. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. It happens to the best of us. As you purge, keep this in mind: There are three things every Miami girl absolutely must have in her apparel arsenal: an excellent pair of jeans, a gauzy white top and a go-to pair of wedges. Here’s why: not only do those things go together and fit into just about every fashion scenario where you don’t need a ball gown, they are also the most interchangeable pieces you will ever find…Read More

Extreme Beauty: That Time I Got Frozen at Cryo Miami

That’s me, the last time I was really, really cold. I was sleeveless in a dress in Colorado in February. The things I do for photos. This is a cryogenic chamber at Cryo Miami. And this is me, sans sleeveless dress, being the coldest I’ve ever been in probably my entire life. Why? Because it was -135 degrees. Why in the world would I do that? Am I crazy, you ask? Just watch the video below. So why in the name of God would I subject such extreme temperatures? Let me remind you, this is Extreme Beauty, where I try out all kinds of stuff in the name of beauty. Cryo Miami opened a bit back. I was invited to test it out. The benefits of cryogenic chambers range from reducing inflammation and stimulating the brain to stimulating your metabolism. Why would you pass up any of those things? So…Read More

Girl Stuff

{Wearing: Silk Butterfly Voyage Scarf: Swedroe by Ariel.} Before we get to the topic of hair—which is what this post is all about—I want to take a minute to say some things in regards to International Women’s Day (because hair and being a girl—it all works together). As women, it’s important we support other women in all walks of life. One way to do that is to support women entrepreneurs. One of those, who I’m extremely proud to wear her scarf (which you can see a full view of in the pic below), is 13-year-old fashion designer Ariel Swedroe Weinberg. This beautiful silk butterfly scarf is part of her very own line called Swedroe by Ariel. You can check out the rest of her line here. She actually got her start at the same place where my kiddo takes her sewing classes, DesignLab Miami, at the same age as kiddo: 8 years…Read More

Hoodwinked

{Wearing: My Home Fashion Boutique Knit Hoodie. Hair: c/o Glamsquad with Vanessa Placeres. Makeup: c/o Glamsquad with  Celina Beach Artistry. Photographed by Danielle Margherite Photography LLC} Here we are, the first day of March (my favorite month for the sole reason that it’s the one in which I, my kiddo and my man were all born—all within a week of each other, nonetheless). We’re 19 days away from spring. Here I am in a hooded sweater with a bikini bottom, because that’s just about the only way we Miamians are able to wear sweaters. Plus, this knit guy was made for the beach—and a sundown bonfire. A Miami girl can dream, right? That whole thing about winter is coming … yeah, when? It didn’t happen. And I’m not complaining one bit about it. It was cool enough to wear over-the-knee boots for a few days. I donned a jacket after dark maybe once, twice max. And I’ve…Read More
