No More Baggage

{Wearing: Lipstick: M.A.C. Dita Von Teese.} They say a woman over 30’s best friend is good lighting. What’s missing from that equation is Dr. Shaun Patel of Miami Skin and Vein. Let’s face it, lighting won’t follow you everywhere you go and I’m yet to find a way to integrate Instagram filters into my real life. I started seeing Dr. Patel back in August to add a little Botox here and there. After all, I’m working on 38 and I prefer to keep my angry face a secret, along with any little lines that pop up along the way. Plus, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with trying to look and feel your best. If a little syringe here and there keeps you feeling great and stands up to what Father Time is dishing out, well, sign me up. I’ve been to more than a few dermatologists in my lifetime….Read More

Let’s Go Camping

Wait, did I just say let’s go camping? Yes, I did. But that’s because this kind of camping doesn’t involve sleeping in a bag and a lack of outdoor plumbing. I’m talking about Camp Standard. You see, one of my favorite spots in Miami Beach, The Standard, celebrates its 10-year anniversary this year. And there’s a week of events to celebrate it. I’m helping spread the word because The Standard is a special spot for me. Not only did I interview Andre Balazs when it opened,  I’ve had more than a few moments of bliss there, as well. From finding serenity at the hamam yoga class, to a group juice cleanse that made me laugh until I cried and detoxed, to an astrology reading that gave me goosebumps, to letting lose and jumping off the dock, topless and covered in mud, there’s just something about The Standard that evokes a…Read More

Put on Your Red Shoes and Dance the Blues

{Wearing: Red heels: c/o Tarbay. Jeans: Mossimo Bracelet: c/o Tous.} The other night, for a friend’s birthday party, I found myself dancing all night long to David Bowie tunes at a bar I hadn’t been to in ages. And it was a blast. Firstly, I haven’t been to Purdy Lounge in like a decade—at least. I think the last time I was there was back when I used to work above it at the Zink magazine Miami office. Back then, The Wordy Girl’s Maria and I created what I guess you could call the skeletal outline of our blogs in a section that appeared in the early years of the magazine called What the Hell. In it, we did stupid things like fed Sea Monkeys parmesan cheese and then wrote about it, road tested just how orange self-tanners can make you and interviewed people like Bobby Trendy (from Anna Nicole). Clearly,…Read More

Being Bash-ful

{Wearing: Dress: c/o Lulu’s. Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell c/o Joanna Paige. Necklace: Vintage. Photographed by moi.} What’s on the agenda this weekend? Well, for starters, the YoungArts Gala. I’ll be covering the red carpet this year, interviewing celebs about the organization that propels young artists toward their dreams, along with what they are wearing, of course. And it couldn’t come at a better time. After spending NYE in Lululemon pants, wool socks and a sweatshirt in the frozen mountains of North Carolina, I could use a dress-up affair. Afterward, I’ll be hitting up the  YoungArts Backyard Bash, making it my third year attending. It’s always fun, plus this is the first social event of the year, so it’s a great time to get done up and hang out with people who support the arts. I’m thrilled about tossing on my journalism hat and hitting the red carpet to get the scoop, too….Read More

How I Lied to My Mother: Part 1 of my Holiday Vacay

{Wearing: Sullivan Dress: c/o Kit & Ace (which is so comfy I chose it as car ride apparel). Boots: Bib + Tuck. Necklace: c/o Finds. Photographed by Jorge Camaraza.} You should never, ever, ever lie to your mother. I mean, she probably told you that at least once in your life—if you’re a saint. Chances are you heard that on repeat because you’re not. Well, I broke Mom’s cardinal rule for the entire month of December. You see, I surprised Milly with a trip to North Carolina to see snow for Christmas and, well, Jorge suggested stopping to see my mom along the way on the trip up, which I also didn’t tell Milly about until Christmas morning. Let’s just say the level of excitement about seeing B.B. (my mama) and her cousins was next level. So, a few weeks before, I called my step-dad and put the whole thing into motion….Read More
