Four Finds: A Girl’s Best Friend

Marilyn Monroe sang it best: “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” Who I am to argue? But did you know that when her estate was auctioned off decades later that most of Marilyn’a jewelry was actually costume? Few of the pieces were actual diamonds. Be it diamonds, crystals or rhinestones, here are a few pieces that sparkle that I think the blonde bombshell herself would approve of. Happy Friday. The Earrings I blame Oprah for my unhealthy obsession with diamond studs. These Princess-Cut Diamond Solitaire Studs from MyJewelryBox.com may not be as big as Harpo’s, but in my book, 1.0 carats will do. The Ring Putting a new spin on diamond rings, this Digby + Iona Diamond Signet Ring from Catbird NYC comes with wax so you can make your seal official on your correspondence. The Bracelet This Swarovski Arty Large Bracelet is one big dose of sparkle. And the black leather cuff gives it edge….Read More

The Wrong Side of the Tracks

{Top: c/o Zamrie Versatile Vida Tank in Charcoal. Belt: Alexis. Short: Shopblush.com. Booties: Bib & Tuck. Bag: Furla Cortina Shoulder Bag c/o the newly revamped Furla at The Village of Merrick Park. Photographed by me.} And now, tales from the trenches—blogger edition. I have always hopped fences and snuck into construction sites to shoot pics for my blog. And like a laundry list of bloggers, I’ve been run off and yelled at for using these backgrounds. (And you thought we just wore clothes and smiled at the camera. Trust me, there’s a lot more that goes into it.) But now that I’ve been shooting my own pics (thanks to my trusty tripod and remote), trespassing has become more of a mission, as I don’t have a partner in crime to help bear the load. So, the other night, I found part of a train on the tracks in Miami proper. I just knew I…Read More

Swap Shop

If you’ve ever been a fan of clothing swaps—and let’s face it, who isn’t? (Cleaning out your closet and getting free stuff? Win, win.) Let me introduce you to Swapdom.com. The site takes swapping to new levels.  After joining, I recently listed three pieces of jewelry I haven’t worn in eons. Then, I perused the site and found a new pair of shoes and a bag I thought were cute. I requested to swap my items for these. What Swapdom.com does is, it creates a circle of people who like your this and you like another person’s that and this person over here wants the first person’s something … here, watch the video, it explains it better than I ever will. After picking items you’d like to swap for, you show what goods you have up for grabs. Then, swapdom.com does the work to create a circle of swapping. Once…Read More

A Day at the Beach

{Rashguard: Vitamin A Stella Stripe c/o The Orchid Boutique. Bikini bottom: Vitamin A Stella Stripe c/o The Orchid Boutique. Photographed by me.} Finally! Basel is done. The Boat Show is pulling its final pieces of flotsam out of the water. And we’ve all gargled Tums after a weekend of SBWFF. For one glorious week we’re show, festival and fair free. (Miami International Film Festival doesn’t start until March 7, and we have until at least the 20th of March before Winter Music Conference and it’s fur-covered ravers invade our turf). Life, as we know it, can resume to normal (or an normal as things get around here). Alton Road traffic will just be run-of-the-mill Alton Road traffic. And the beach may actually have a plot or two for the locals. For nearly one week, we get Miami back. It’s ours. Sweet, glorious ours. Yeah. And it couldn’t come at a better time. It’s that time of…Read More

My Date With Tom Ford

{Dress: Style Mafia. Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs. Necklace: Frankie Miami. Wrap bracelet: c/o Jurate Double Troule Bracelet in red. Shoes: Steve Madden. Photographed by me.} OK, I didn’t have an actual date with Tom Ford. If I did God knows you would have heard me scream from here to Chicago. But I did have a date with his makeup counter and the extremely talented makeup artist Cal Campos before I hosted the Neiman Marcus Project Beauty event at Bal Harbour Shops last week. Normally, I break out into a cold sweat before sitting with a makeup artist. So many of them want to make me look like what Ginger would look like with a ton of makeup on. Hi, no thanks. But Cal just got it. And he’s ridiculously awesome, too. We chatted like two kindred spirits about everything under the sun. (He now knows I have two ill-behaved Yorkies, and…Read More

The February Beauty Board

Smell pretty, like a floral bouquet: Bulgari Omnia Crystalline L’eau de Parfum at Neiman Marcus. Put a ring on it: Tous ring. Cuter and cheaper than Botox: Warby Parker Quimby in Absinthe. The spring collection is essential for beach getaways, or—as we like to call them in Miami—weekends. Better than your phone in your back pocket: Che-nel (because it’s def not Chanel) boy bag phone case cover. You’ll have to hunt this down on Ebay and wait 16 years for it to arrive from China. And if Chanel actually made one, I’d be all over it. OMG has Chanel been one-upped by China? Blasphemy! Pucker up: Tata Harper Be Adored. Lip-plumping powers from the mother of all beauty: nature. The scents of time: Diptique Amber Hourglass Sablier Diffuser at Neiman Marcus. (Seriously, this is brilliant. It’s an hourglass of scent. Flip flop, flip flop.) Home spa attempt to get my 21-year-old skin back: Glamglow Brightmud Eye Treatment and Thirstymud Hydrating…Read More

Forget About “It”

{Dress: Shopblush.com. Jacket:Touchdolls.com. Bag: Half-Pint Black and White c/o Brit-Stitch.com. Shoes: Cynthia Rowley. Necklace: Street Chic ID Necklace by Forever21. Bracelet: Vintage. Photographed by Me. Last week, my Instagram feed was overly alive with Fashion Week pics and vids. The shoes! The dresses! The bags! Yes, it was eye candy so delicious, I could actually taste the leather, but the reality is very few people can spend thousands of dollars on shoes and handbags—though I’m pretty sure more than half of us would like to—and then when we do we find ourselves feeling like a queen in our new piece and much like a pauper when the Amex bill comes. Instead, use the “it” bag to tell you what shade you should be toting, but venture out when it comes to shape, brand and style. This little black and white number from Brit-Stitch is a refreshing change of pace. And for around $150, it’s a steal. Did you know…Read More

Little Miss Manners

{Heart dress: H&M. Boots: Missoni for Target. Socks: Target. Glasses: Coastal.com.} One fashion trend that never goes out of style: Good manners. Kiddo and I had a fabulous weekend, which started with an etiquette brunch by Style Saves at the Boulan. This adorable group of Miami Beach’s next generation got the lowdown on how to sit at the table, which fork to use, even how to greet each other, thanks to Monique Graciotti of the Veritas Institute.  It was as adorable as it was informative. Afterward, Mills and I treated ourselves to Pinkberry and enjoyed mani and pedis, rounding out the perfect Saturday like proper ladies. Big thanks to Rachael Russell and Style Saves for inviting us. To learn more about Style Saves and how you can get involved in helping underprivileged kids of South Florida, check out the site.

Happy Valentine’s Day

{On me:Slip: Vintage. Shoes: Saint Laurent. On Milly:Dress: Gap. Shoes: H&M. Photographed by me.} Kiddo and I just wanted to say Happy Valentine’s Day. Cupid doesn’t need to go slinging arrows because my love is right here next to me. It’s true love in the purest form, and I’m beyond grateful I have her in my life. So today, feel the love and enjoy it.  Thanks, Owen for photobombing our pic. We still love you regardless, you little Muppet.
