Staying Power

Minx came and went. Gel took half my toenail with it (long story) and cost me an extra $10 to get off. Press-on nails popped off at a party and made my hands an interesting (and awkward) conversation piece. And the regular mani, well, that lasts a whole five minutes when you have a 5-year-old kiddo and two dogs who constantly require being cleaned up after. What’s a girl to do? Enter Salon Vaso and it’s new Vinylux mani/pedis. The salon, located in South Beach just atop Einstein’s Bagels (mmm, pumpkin bagel … two birds, one stone), has a little something new from CND called Vinylux, which goes on and stays on for anywhere from 7-10 days. It’s like a gel, but requires no UV light nor crazy removal tactics to take off. Uppy, my manicurist, gave me the lowdown on the polish, explaining, as a fellow mom, that it…Read More

H&M-sanity in West Palm

{Sweater, skirt, hat, necklace: c/o H&M. Booties: Bib + Tuck. Fashion photographed by Sunny Middleton.} Last week, I got the awesome chance to dress two lucky attendees at the opening of H&M at City Place in West Palm. The grand opening of the store was as any H&M opening should be: A giant line of people waiting since the night before to get their hands on the merchandise. I plucked two from that never-ending maze to shop the store before it opened as part of H&M’s #FashionRoadTrip campaign. My lucky winners were good sports. We started with each picking the piece they liked best and then built a look for there. I got to dress myself, too. I went for a cute sweater to wear at night now that the temps have cooled off a bit and paired it with a leather skirt and hat. Here’s a look at how the adventure went down.    …Read More

Words of Wisdom

{Top: Forever 21. Shirt: Shopblush.com. Shoes: Jimmy Choo. Necklace: Angeles Almuna. Neon and Gold Clutch: Stella Rittwagen. Sunnies: Target. Photographed by Kelly Saks.} The other day I was walking down Lincoln Road when I saw a display in the window at Koto. I fell in love with it. The repetition was just as powerful of the words themselves. Sometimes you just need a reminder. And what better reminder than the same giant words of wisdom over and over and over again? Leaving the past behind and embarking on a brand new future. Sign me up.

Walls, Falls and New Kicks

{Vest: Mossimo. Jeans: Zara. Ruby crochet shoes: c/o Painted Bird. Necklace: Vintage.} It finally started to cool down in Miami, which means I’ve hauled out the jeans. And I paired them with these adorable Painted Bird crochet flats from my October mood board. I couldn’t wait to wear them again for the blog. While I was editing these pics, I realized, however, that I was sitting on a wall. Kiddo has been studying nursery rhymes at school. One of the ones on repeat is Humpty Dumpty. I know you know how it goes: He also sat on a wall. He had a great fall. All the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t put him back together again. Do you know why? Because if I’ve learned anything in 2013, it’s that you can’t rely on other people to put you back together again. You have to do it yourself….Read More

Take a Trip With Me and H&M

That’s me from last year’s opening of H&M in Miami Beach. Turns out, H&M loves more than just Miami, as the brand is encouraging you to go on an H&M-inspired road trip dubbed the #FashionRoadTrip tour. In fact, tomorrow, October 24, I’ll be venturing to H&M at City Place in West Palm Beach for the ribbon cutting at the grand opening. I’ll be selecting two lucky readers/attendees to be styled from head to toe and granting them access to shop the store early before its doors officially open at noon. Want to go green? You can join H&M’s recycling initiative by bringing in your castoff clothing articles. H&M will give you 15 percent off one item of your choice at your next purchase for every bag of clothes you hand in. Your unwanted items will then go to the nearest processing plant. The clothes are then graded and hand-sorted.  Items…Read More

A Big Sloppy Kiss and Thank You to The New Times

{Dress: Shopblush.com. Shoes: Jimmy Choo. Necklace: Vintage. Lipstick: Chanel in Almadine. Photographed by Sunny Middleton.} The other day I got a tweet from friend and foodie extraordinaire FatGirlHedonist (that’s one of the fun things about being a blogger, it’s like we all have superhero names). Anyway, she let me know I’d been nominated for The Miami New Times 2013 Web Awards for Best Fashion Blog (BTW, she’s nominated for Best Food Blog, show her some love, won’t you. Her Instagram feed is temptation x 100.). So I clicked her link and there it was, number 14 with Electric Blogarella typed out in a blue link. How exciting. My blog is coming up on it’s two-year anniversary next month and to be recognized for the love and time I invest in it fills me with a joy I just have to blog about. To be named alongside the likes of my blogger…Read More

Pumpkin Patchin’

{Gigi tribal romper: Shopblush.com. Ears: Forever 21. Necklace: Vintage Avon. Shoes: Loehmann’s. Photographed by: My awesome 5-year-old kiddo.} On Sunday, kiddo and I made our annual trek to the pumpkin patch for that one orange gourd that we’ll carve into a toothy jack-o-lantern. Kiddo is the ultimate pumpkin picker. “Too round. Too bumpy. Too tall,” she says. But eventually we find the right one. And it’s perfect. A round little guy with all the carving potential in the world. Next week, before All Hallow’s Eve, we’ll dive right in, rip out its guts, put the pumpkin seeds aside for baking and turn this squash into a spooky candle holder. But before all of that, our adventure as cats and bats in the pumpkin patch went a little something like this.

The Scoop

{Top: Alexander Wang c/o Scoop NYC Bal Harbour Shops. Leather Skirt: Alexander Wang c/o Scoop NYC Bal Harbour Shops. Jewelry: Vintage. Shoes: Kelsie Dagger.} Sometimes it’s just about rebuilding from the ground up, which seems easy when you’re decked out in Alexander Wang. I scored this amazing outfit for the grand opening party of Scoop NYC Bal Harbour. The opening fete was a blast. It was great catching up with friends. Plus, the collection is drool-worthy. The Helmut Lang leather leggings are sick, sick, sick. And this skirt. Oh, this skirt. I will wear it until I die. Mr. Wang, you’ve outdone yourself with this one. These are the pieces you build a wardrobe out of. And speaking of building, let’s get back to my opening statement about rebuilding. Sometimes, when you least expect it, life gives you a do-over. It’s your opportunity to take everything you didn’t like about…Read More

Polished: The DIY Way

{Deborah Lippman in Red Silk Boxers and Harem Silks From Bombay, available at Neiman Marcus.} Fact: I rarely paint my own nails. Now before you label me a diva, hear this. My left hand is not my right hand. And painting anything with my left hand is like a fish riding a bicycle. But, every now and then I get the itch to try out a nail trend. Case in point: The latest collection from Deborah Lippman. These colors are amazing. So much so, I couldn’t wait to play with them. So that’s exactly, what I did. And I got kid in on the action, too. Milly won’t ever let me paint her fingernails, only her toenails, so we did Red Silk Boxers for her toes. We both love the matte finish so much we decided to skip the topcoat so it wouldn’t get glossy. For my own toes, I…Read More
