Four Finds to Look for at the Target Neiman Marcus Collab

Smashed between Black Friday and Art Basel is Target’s most daring collaboration to date: the Target Neiman Marcus hybrid. And tomorrow, it’s gets real. And yes, I will be there hella early with my camera snapping pics of the shoppers loosing their mind over the collection. Here’s a few of the things I’ve got my eye on. What are you prepared to go to battle for? {I seriously haven’t needed a lunch box since like 1986, but hey, I could make an exception for this one from Tory Burch. Thermos, $24.99, lunchbox, $19.99.}   {Diane von Furstenberg yoga mat, $49.99? Yes, please.}   {In the off chance it actually gets cold enough to wear these amazing Brian Atwood gloves, $49.99, in Miami, I’ll have them ready to go.}     {Perfect holiday gift comin’ at cha, Carolina Herrera travel bag collection, $39.99.} {Bonus find: Skaist Taylor kids hat, $39.99. Not going…Read More

Taking My Revamped Vintage for a Stroll

  {Revamped vintage dress. Vintage clutch. H&M cuff. Steve Madden suede platform wedges. P.S. That’s my art project I STILL havent’ finished behind me. Before 2013, I swear.} As a self-professed vintage junkie, I go on missions to find out-of-date dresses. I initially found this dress at a yard sale at the home of the most adorable little old lady in Surfside. I unearthed this ’60s frock from her mix for $5. It was a long maxi mess with a sash that draped down on both sides like something from a Disney princess movie. I handed it over to my housekeeper, who can make a needle and thread sing, and she created this design by pulling things in here, tucking them in there and snipping a lot off the bottom. I threw this on for the Miami Art Museum Art Fair Survival Party at The James Royal Palm, where I…Read More

Why I’m a Black Friday Shopper

It’s 4:49 on Black Friday, and I’m leaving the house to see what lurks out there in the land of people who wait in line for TVs and fight over 75 percent off socks. I’ve been doing it for years. And every Thanksgiving when I say, “Have to go home early and go to sleep so I can get up at the crack of dawn and shop,” someone asks, “Why?” And I respond the same as I do every year: Why buy what I need at regular price when I can get it on sale?” a concept I can apply to every store I need to go to in one day. Plus, by the end of that day, I’m almost always finished with all of my holiday shopping. Finished, done, done-zo. Being able to knock that out in one day is a deal in and of itself. Here’s how things…Read More

What I’m Thankful for

Happy Thanksgiving. The third Thursday in November is actually my least favorite holiday of all the holidays. It’s not really a vegetarian-friendly sort of day. But I get what the sentiment is about. It’s about tradition and giving thanks. And this year, like every year, I’ll turn on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, call my Papaw and wish him a happy Thanksgiving. I’ll talk to my mom, my brother and his kids as they trickle into her house. And then I’ll get together with my Miami-based family to share and eat. Uncle Ed will give me his newspaper, so I can put my Black Friday plan into motion. I’ll eat some pumpkin pie. And we’ll call it a day. So what am I thankful for, since that’s what this whole shebang adds up to? My amazing hubby and my 4-year-old bestie, little miss Milly Jane. And for beautiful Miami Beach…Read More

The Fine Print

  That’s me pre-Mercury in retrograde. What does that mean, exactly? It means Mercury appears to move backward and things get all out of whack. It’s supposed to be a time to slow down and contemplate, but what really happens is sheer and utter chaos—a lot and everywhere you go, too. Your computer will eat your files. Your friends and family will suddenly become Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. People will get out of their cars and stand in parking spots after you’ve clearly had your turn signal on for five minutes. And you’ll have plumbing and car problems in the same week—true story. You may think the universe is out to get you. But it’s not just you. It’s out to give everyone a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. And just in time for your family to descend on your house for Thanksgiving, too. Yikes. It’s a…Read More

Brilliance New York Makeover Giveaway

Why I’m Boycotting Back Thursday

  Thanksgiving brings with it a host of traditions: girl chat while cooking in the kitchen, football in the front room, sarcasm from someone about my yearly non-turkey vegetarian meal, card games after too much eating and Black Friday plans of attack post pumpkin pie. Then, it’s off to bed to wake up at the crack of dawn to go Black Friday shopping. Nowhere in that equation is  dine and dash out to sales. So, I’m slightly (OK seriously) anti this whole Black Thursday thing. It started a couple of years ago when malls began opening at midnight (still Black Friday). But now stores like Target, Walmart, Sears and Toys R Us are opening as early as 8 p.m, which means people will start lining up at 6 p.m., which means we aren’t really being thankful for anything other than consumerism. And I’ve got an issue with that. Don’t get…Read More

Four Finds

It’s been awhile since I’ve done one of these. Here are a few of my favorite things I found this week. {This Miami-made wrap-around bracelet from BluLua makes an excellent gift. Because, you know, it’s totally time to start thinking about that. Find it at} {Gypsy handmade undies all the way from Hawaii. Trust me, the cut is exactly what you are looking for in skivvies. You can also find them at} {I found these shiny shoes in the kids section at Target. The blue soles sealed the deal.} {All you need is “love” and a ring that says pretty much that. I scored this sterling silver one on Etsy for less than $5.}
