It's Raining, It's Pouring: What to Wear for the Rainy Season

The best thing about all this rain? Rain boots. I was thinking it. I got an e-mail about it. The time has come. It’s my official rainwear post. When the rainy season in Miami starts, it’s no joke. It could last days, weeks or a whole five minutes. Unfortunately, five minutes has passed and it’s still pouring. But you can’t just hide under the covers forever. Eventually, you are going to have leave the confines of your roof and encounter a puddle of two. Here’s a few suggestions on what to wear when doing so. First off, you’re going to need dry feet, because nothing is worse than soggy socks. I locked into these Missoni for Target rain boots (pictured above) back when that whole ordeal was going on. Though I didn’t get them the day of, I found them a few weeks later on clearance for $8. Yup, $8….Read More

Your Plans for This Thursday: Beachwear Bash at Bliss Spa

Come shop I Love Aquarius. This Thursday, May 3, grab the girls for a spa- and swimwear-inspired night on the town. I’ll be hosting the Shortcuts to Fabulous Beachwear Bash with Bliss Spa at the W South Beach from 7 to 10 p.m. Expect complimentary mini spa treatments, free drinks from Grey Goose and trunk shows from Aquarius, Kariza swimwear and Septimo accessories. I recently snatched up a coverup from Aquarius at The Styleliner and am in love. I even bought a bandeau to wear underneath it so I can rock it as a top. Considering my upcoming trip to Mexico (ole!), I could use a new swimsuit or two, so I’ll be stocking up for my getaway. And chances are you’ll be jet setting this summer, too. Come by, shop, spa and sip libations with your besties. Space is limited, so be sure to RSVP early to RSVP@shortcutstofabulous.com. See…Read More

Wedding Tales: Buster Gets Married

The groom in head-to-toe white. And me in Jill Stuart and vintage Nordstrom heels. Last night, my friend Buster got married. I first met Buster 12 years ago, back when he had bottle-blond hair, pink glasses and fuzzy leopard flip-flops. Back when he was a nightlife photog (with a camera that took floppy discs, nonetheless), who danced on speakers at Cameo when it was called Crobar and Mansion when it was Level. We worked at a magazine together, one with actual pages, not virtual ones, back when South Beach was ripe with publications. A lot’s changed since then, obviously — though somehow Tantra is still open. A fact that blows my mind whenever I drive past it. I feel like I grew up with Buster and crew in the South Beach sandbox. In fact, Buster MCed my wedding way back when. Last night, he also MCed his own affair. It…Read More

Coming This Fall: G Star Raw and H&M

The future home of H&M — finally. The end of Lincoln Road that gets little to no local love is attempting to compete with its 1111 counterpart this fall. Soon, H&M be opening — in case you are one of four people left in this city who doesn’t know that— (Fact: I actually met someone the other day who had no idea, which prompted this post.) In addition to the uber affordable European fashion juggernaut, the same area of Lincoln will also inherit a G-Star Raw. I recently dropped into the G-Star in Aventura Mall and found more than just jeans. (I had no idea). Tons of cute dresses, jackets and a pair of matching silk pants and shorts grabbed my attention. I also learned the brand uses something called 3-D technology to make jeans fit better. By 3-D, it means rather than flat-fitting jeans, the thigh-to-knee area curves in…Read More

Been There, Done That: Fashion Bloggers Night Out at Neiman Marcus Coral Gables

Hey, that’s me! Last night Neiman Marcus in Coral Gables hosted a house packed with Miami fashionistas for Fashion Bloggers Night Out. In an evening all about apparel, the crowd showed up dressed to the nines to listen to fellow fashion bloggers Annie Vazquez, Kar Gar, Maria Tettamanti, Jenny Lopez and myself chat about—what else—fashion and blogging while Maria Arguello moderated. And what would a fashion blogger night out be without a fashion show? With the help of Katharine Rubino, Neiman Marcus sent its top looks of the season down the runway. With everything from neon to tribal, the runway included real showstoppers, as well as looks from each blogger. Afterward, the crowd enjoyed drinks from Perrier, snacks from Paulina’s Pops and Kathy’s Kakery and silly and serious pics at the Flash Candy photo shoot. It was a stellar night for fashion and fun. The girls: The Wordy Girl, Lopez…Read More

Hal Rubenstein talks about 100 Unforgettable Dresses

Sarah Jessica Parker in a not-so-easy-to-forget gown. Photo courtesy of ”100 Unforgettable Dresses.” InStyle
magazine fashion director Hal Rubenstein drops into Coach at Aventura Mall tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. to chat up his book 100 Unforgettable Dresses and autograph copies. We get the scoop on his favorite frocks. Of the 100, which is your favorite and why? I honestly don’t have a favorite. That’s why the choices are neither categorized nor in any sequential order. I wanted the reader to be surprised. Of course, I had to start somewhere, so we begin with Versace’s Safety Pin Dress on Elizabeth Hurley, because it immediately proves the power of a dress to make a person world famous overnight. Certainly it helps to look and be built like Ms. Hurley, but her appearance in Versace’s gown only proves the book’s definition of unforgettability. It’s the right dress, on the right woman,…Read More

Dirty Little Secrets: The $2.80 Cami from Forever 21

Ugh, why oh why didn’t I get the purple one, too? Confession: I have an entire drawer of tanks and camis from Forever 21. Fact: That entire drawer doesn’t add up to more than $50. I may have a phobia of the rest of the stuff at Forever 21 (you know, because it falls apart while you are wearing it), but I’m obsessed with the tanks and camis. At $2.80 a top, why wouldn’t I be? I happened into the tri-level store in Aventura Mall the other day and scooped up green, turquoise and coral to add to my collection of mostly neutrals. And while I wear them all the time, my secret to keeping them in rotation is not putting them in the dryer. It gives them a longer life, like now they may even make it through two whole weeks without sprouting a hole. That’s less than $10…Read More

Joe's Jeans Opens in Aventura Mall

Behold, 55 colors at Joe’s Jeans. Last week, Joe’s Jeans opened in Aventura Mall. The neutral-toned store, which was put together in a grand total of four days, proved to be the perfect backdrop to the colorful pops of denim the brand is known for. Cute, unexpected displays everywhere. But more than just jeans, I was surprised to see equally cute shoes, backpacks and tanks and tees in the most delectable worn-in cottons. Bold mochilas. Neon pops. In addition to its numerous colored jeans, Joe’s does printed denim like none other. From the subtle white leopard to the floral prints, there were more than a few pairs I could invision myself in. Like these below. Daniella Sredni in the most adorable jeans ever. Must have these: The Skinny in Silver Floral. Me and the kiddo. Yup, they make denim for tots, too. Check out the store for yourself at 19501…Read More

My Date with Armani Makeup's Tim Quinn at Sak's Bal Harbour

Me with the very talented Bia and Tim Quinn. Last week, the head of Armani Cosmetics, Tim Quinn, landed at Sak’s at Bal Harbour Shops for a charity event benefitting Dress for Success. I was lucky enough to drop in and experience he and his team’s expertise. Switching between Quinn and Bia, an adorable member of the Armani team, I got a makeover that made me rethink my love affair with powder coverups and foundations. I explained the hypersensitivity of my skin to Bia. And she introduced me to several new products, including Face Fabric, a tinted moisturizer with SPF that she says is perfect for moms on the go. Hi, that’s me. Quinn himself made my lashes pop with Eyes to Kill Excess Mascara, and Bia gave my cheeks a kiss of color with Bronze Mania in #5. Last but not least, the pout. Luckily, Bia is as obsessed…Read More
